Report: Mighty No. 9 x Gunvolt x Galgun Collaboration Announced For 3DS [Update]

By Sato . August 19, 2014 . 7:15am

Inti Creates reportedly announced a new Nintendo 3DS collaboration project called Mighty Gunvolt, seemingly revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

The project is supposedly a collaboration title between Comcept’s Mighty No. 9, Inti Creates’ own Azure Striker Gunvolt, and… Galgun, which is a project Inti Creates were involved with.

While details are scant for the time being, the report indicates that this is a downloadable title for the 3DS, and that Azure Striker Gunvolt content will appear in an ’80s style graphic design. It’s unclear as to whether this is a remake or something else entirely.

As far as playable characters go, you’ll be able to play as Azure Striker Gunvolt protagonist Gunvolt,  Ekoro the apprentice angel from Galgun, and Mighty No. 9 hero Beck.

Details on Mighty Gunvolt’s release date and price are currently unavailable. More details are expected to surface in the near future.

Update: Inti Creates have provided the following comments via their Azure Striker Gunvolt Twitter feed:

Inti Creates have also stated that further information on just what this is will surface within the next 24 hours. Following the publication of this report, Siliconera reached out to the developer for comment. We’ll update with further information as soon as we hear back.

    Damn, already?

  • Namuro

Mighty No.9 collaboration was already quite a surprise, but GalGun? How random…

    And I LIKE it!!

  • Oh snap, is it going to be like Namco X Capcom/Project X Zone? Can’t wait! :D

    • Namuro

A TRPG? It could be, but I highly doubt it. All of the three games have one thing in common, which is “shooting”, so it’ll either be a 2D side-scroller, or an arcade-style shooter.

Also, you’d need A LOT of characters for a crossover game like PXZ, and well-recognized ones at that. Both games are still really new, so new that they’re not even out yet! Not too many people will know who the characters are, and there’s not that many characters they can throw into the game, too.

Let’s wait and see what these guys will come up with!

  • phayroent

Inti isn’t going to beg for money on kickstarter this time? Interesting, but they should get Mighty No. 9 out before they start allocating resources elsewhere.

    • Inti Creates didn’t ask for money, Comcept did. Mighty No. 9 is owned by Comcept and is funded via Kickstarter. Gunvolt is owned by Inti and is entirely self-funded and self-published. Get your facts straight.

      • Mark Lengod

Inti Creates is developing both anyway. Co-develop, whatever.

He is not that far when talking about a possible Kickstarter.

        • Sure, but Inti Creates doesn’t care where the money comes from. They’ve been contracted to do a project and they’ll do it. Do they, as developers, care about the quality of the game and their time and budget? Yes.

However, where the money comes from isn’t their responsibility. That’s the responsibility of Comcept, who owns the Mighty I.P., decides its future, and decides how to market it.

There’s a very big difference between developer and publisher. Sometimes, publishers make decisions that developers may not necessarily agree with, but they don’t have a say in the matter.

  • XypherCode

    Woah! nice!

  • Makoto Yuki

    Yes please!

  • Göran Isacson

Huh. This feels a liiiittle bit pre-mature. They sure are hedging a lot of bets on these two games becoming popular… or maybe they plan to market Gunvolt with brand association to Mighty Nr 9?

  • J_Joestar

    80s style?
    so, an 8-bit look?
(maybe something like the minigame from MMZXA?)

  • s07195

    Hahaha, interesting. Tell me more.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

  • kylehyde

Alright, even that I’m excite about gunvolt and little bit about mighty no. 9, is not a little pre-mature to make an crossover? I mean we haven’t get even the original games and I still remember many games that dare to announce their trilogy plans even before the “first” game was released, many of those arrogant franchise ended being mediocre and the firs game became the only one. Of course, this is not always the case, but I hope the curse doesn’t apply on this case.

    • I completely forgot about Kaio King of PIrates… What happened to that?

      • J_Joestar

It is finished on Inafune’s end, Marvelous is supposedly holding it back at the moment (probably for an anime cross marketing promo like Inazuma Eleven or Yokai Watch).

        • Are you serious? :( I hope they don’t randomly decide to can the project

          • J_Joestar

would be a pretty big waste since he said that game itself was 100% finished.
Even Capcom pushed out the Gaist Crusher sequel despite how poorly the first one did, mainly since they had most of it finished and didn’t want it to be a complete waste.

  • SupaPhly

now we just need to get galgun localized… somehow

    • Shippoyasha

      It’s region free on PS3.

      • SupaPhly

yeah, I know I know, but I wanna know what they’re saying, and there are parts where you need to know the language to play :P

  • Go2hell66

    But why galgun???

    • Shippoyasha

Inti Creates! I love these mad scientist collaborations!

    • John Diamond

is galgun another one of those bullet hell games?

      • Shippoyasha

It’s a game where you shoot cute girls to make them mellowed out. It’s a pretty fanservicey game and definitely a quirky addition to this crossover.

      • Daverost

It’s an on-rails shooter, and a pretty good one at that. Think Virtua Cop or Area 51.

  • Eder García

too soon… but im ok with this

  • I feel they might be trying a little too hard to promote Mighty 9 what with the animated show and this announced so far apart from the actual release in April 2015.

    • Bobby Jennings

      I agree.

  • Mika Moreno

Mighty No. 9 still doesn’t come out for practically a year. Already there’s a mash up game. They’re really pushing Mighty No 9…

  • Bobby Jennings

Too early for this. Mighty 9 still hasn’t been released.

Game might just be terrible if this is what they’re doing.

  • Kaetsu

Galgun? How is that even going to work? lol.

  • Ecchitori

Ignoring rants, I’m interested in this..

  • Hexodious

    …Galgun? Oh boy.

  • z_merquise
  • Spirit Macardi

Shouldn’t you make sure people have played and like the games before doing a crossover? Yeah they look good now, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll be well received upon release.

A game company deciding that a title will be a blockbuster before it hits shelves has worked for Watch Dogs and Yokai Watch, but there’s also numerous failures like Kingdoms of Amalur.

  • Arz

    • J_Joestar

  • Yan Zhao

    Im ok with this.

Even if MN9 turns out to be mediocre, its characters and setting are still nice and and memorable at this point for a cross-over. So I dont see what all the complains are trying to prove here.

  • Zero_Destiny

    Mighty Striker Gal. :O

But wow, that’s ….. ah … a bit …… soon. And kinda really random. lol Still, I’m curious now. Wonder what the heck it will be like. I wanna see more.

    • Anime10121

Lol, I dont know if you meant for that to come out as lewd as it did…but it did XD

      • Zero_Destiny

Probably because I started to hang out with @MrSirFeatherFang:disqus so much.

        • Anime10121

          Lol, makes sense XD

  • César H. Sandoval

“Too soon”? Do the People that worry too much about this crossover actually believe that it’s gonna be released BEFORE No.9 and Gunvolt?

    For real?

    • Muffum

The comments I see about it being “too soon” are more concerned about the huge media push they’re giving MN9 when it’s not even released yet, and express the possibility that it could outright fail as a franchise.

      • César H. Sandoval

“There is no such thing as bad advertising”

        • Muffum

I wasn’t aware there was even bad publicity over this, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to say with that. It’s purely about what will happen to all this merchandising for MN9 if the game itself doesn’t do well.

          • César H. Sandoval

I’m saying that advertising the brand (with animes, xover games, etc) enough as they can is not ever gonna be something bad for them, I don’t get why people get so freaked out about publicity.

          • Muffum

You keep exaggerating people’s reactions to this. Even if somebody out there is “freaking out” over this, by no means does that mean the majority is. And it can be bad for them if the source material that merchandise is based on doesn’t do well; considering the game doesn’t even have a definite release date yet, that’s a very real possibility.

          • César H. Sandoval

I see plenty of people freaking out just in this article. and the game has had a release date for quite a while, spring 2015.

          • Muffum

I see plenty of people questioning it; not really any “freaking out” about it. And “spring 2015” is a release window, not a release date.

  • Niiiiice

  • ronin4life

okay, I’m out. Who could have ever guessed someone would add megaman to megaman to erotic Tmecrisis?

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

Megaman isn’t Mega Man without panty shots.

  • Christopher C

    erotic robots?

  • Kornelious

    Well……that didn’t take long :P

  • Dascylus

If this actually is something that gets localized, and it might now that Inti Creates is self-publishing overseas, I would be very interested in something like this even if it sounds like an outlandish idea (and those ideas tend to be good)

    • Daniel

I thought blood dragon was an outlandish idea and i love it for that. Mark IV style!

  • mike dickson

why galgun ? WHY !!! but that aside we can see Call’s pantsu

  • Senpai

I’m predicting that this will be DLC of some sort.

  • Sol badass

I sure do wish vita would get love like this

  • Gal gun is such a stupid and irresponsible choice.
Regardless if they implement softcore porn aspects or not they’re forcing the characters and advertisements down the players throats.
Would have been great with just MN9 and Gunvolt.

    • Zizal

You don’t mind MN9 but when it comes to gal gun you think it’s forced advertisement. Don’t choose the character or buy the dlc if you don’t like it.

      • Its about jamming smut into a completely different kind of game thats what I’m referring to when I say advertising.
2 side scroller games having a cross over is more justified than a random hentai game that has almost nothing in common with the other 2 games. There is nothing more to talk about if you think games geared towards a younger audience should even be associated with something like that. Its the same as having a mario game have senran kagura characters appear.

        • Zizal

Gal gun is one of their works so it might be cheaper to have one of it’s characters in the game and they didn’t announce the details. I think it’s too early to tell if they will add h-elements or not and you don’t know if this will be global or japan only.

    • Shippoyasha

Why would you prejudge a game before it’s out. They may as well have her be a serious, actiony character in the game. And the Internet is there. Anyone with a few seconds to spare can research it. The old slippery slope really doesn’t fly anymore. Also, like most games like it, the sexual element of Galgun is way overblown by naysayers.

      • Don’t know what you consider “overblown” but it is in fact a softcore porn like I said it was.
I had no idea that game existed until they came up with this which brings me to it being impossible to look up something you don’t know about.
Its hilarious how people like you are trying to make it seem like its a great game without the lude aspect of it and its not.
You wanna know good rail shooters(At least for their time)? Time crisis, Sin and punishment, House of the dead all of which do not emphasis on sexual content and actually provide a challenge.
I’m all for people doing whatever the hell they want but when they start to trickle the part of Japanese culture I try to avoid then yeah I’m gonna get irritated. Its not ok to advertise that to a different target audience.

        • Shippoyasha

Not everybody thinks sexual content is totally non kosher in gaming. That’s just your opinion. Again, you are really jumping the gun making a big fuss without even knowing how the game is going to turn out. I just don’t see the big deal in it. So it’s your pet peeve, I get it. I just don’t see it as some grave injustice that’s all.

  • Mnstrzero00

Cart before the horse a bit here. These games aren’t even out yet and they are putting effort behind other games. Instead of making the games the best that they can they are splitting effort. I can’t get behind it fully.

Although, maybe they are talking a gamble and hoping that if these games are big releasing another game not too long afterwards will allow them to benefit from the first games wave of popularity. It is a gamble but all creators are gambling when they hope to sell a product.

    • Attribule

“Instead of making the games the best that they can they are splitting effort. I can’t get behind it fully.”

This isn’t a full-scale game, if that’s what you’re implying. This is definitely “side project” stuff. Also, it may be the same studio but that doesn’t mean it’s the same development team working on it.

“Splitting efforts” would imply they’re actually pulling people from Mighty No.9 or Gunvolt aside to work on this “mini-game” that literally isn’t even as large as the original Mega Man. It’s more of a flash game if anything. They don’t have to have the same developers in order to work on this type of project. For example, just because Beck is in this game doesn’t mean they had to use Mighty No.9 developers to put him in.

  • Daverost

Whatever they’re doing with Gal*Gun, I hope it’s well-represented. I’ll be honest, that game was one of the most fun on-rails shooters I’ve ever played. It deserves more credit than it gets.

  • Ric Vazquez

    Hope this is good

  • Hips, pantsu, Megaman spirit, Oh, my~!

  • Naomi Kurohana

Is this really happening? If it is, sign me up!

  • sanjitps

Oh my gosh this is amazing.

  • Zonic505

Famitsu article is up: (might need to refresh to have it load)

Basically, it’ll come out this winter & it’s FREE if you download Gunvolt before Nov. 19th. Now hopefully this deal will be confirmed for the US. I’m guessing the game will be out around that date if that’s the deadline.

Edit: Site’s up: & it seems there might be DLC as well, according to Famitsu.

    • Elizabeth ‘Ely’ Moreno

If the good eshop doesn’t lie to me, Gunvolt will be released on August 29, so there’s still hope.

  • mckun

    Just awesome.

  • Vash bane

lolz amuro stole my thunder…jk lol but serious wth already? is there a gameplay vid for either game that’s not a trailer (honestly not all interested in gunvolt so I don’t pay intention to it much but I do like the character designs)?

  • Kamen Rider Rayz

    Oh hohohoho…. This is….. Just…. So…… AMAZING….. I can’t even…. describe…. how happy I am! Arigatoguzaimasu Keiji Inafune-sama! You are one of my idols! / :’D / How I wish MegaMan could be able to join as well…. >:'(

  • Spiffy

I also agree that this is a “cart before the horse” type of situation here.

I understand the desire to keep the hype alive for Mighty No. 9, but I think time and resources could be better used to make the game the best it can be.
