  • Heropon

This list missing Nobuo Uematsu , Hitoshi Sakimoto , Ippo Yamada and Manami Kyota.

    • Aaron K Stone

      Cant have em all.

    • There’s always the Wii U version.

    • Kaetsu

      And Shoji Meguro :D

      • If Meguro’s too busy bathing in his Persona Buxxx these days to even score a new mainline SMT, he’s sure as hell too busy for Smash. >:/

        • HarakiriKami

          Jack frost 4 smush

      • SetzerGabbiani

This is one of the instances if they revealed Shoji, we would know that a SMT related character reveal would be imminent. Would be awesome if Jack Frost was a character in Smash Bros…he fits right in.

        • HarakiriKami

SMT is closely related to NIntendo so I want it to happen

    • It is scary and sad that Sakimoto is missing as of now, but I think him, Manami Kyota and Uematsu were on the Brawl list, so they’ll probably still be on for the Wii U as KALverin points out.

      I am hoping, anyway. ;u;

  • evilkaz

They’ve got people who’ve worked on MGS, Kingdom Hearts. Chrono Trigger, and Pheonix Wright.

Jesus it better be a hell of a soundtrack.

    • Guest

It’s usually only arrangements of main character themes (hardly any new compositions) but yeah, that’s a collection of some really skilled composers.

    • Brawl had one of the best soundtracks of any game I trust Nintendo

  • TheGioG

Let me just say that Nintendo got one hell of a shindig together when they recruited composers for Brawl. So many incredible remixes blowing my nostalgia settings to overdrive. May this list of composers destroy those very nostalgia settings from the sheer awesomeness that is to come.

  • Tonton Ramos

Ridley Confirmed? Ganondorf Confirmed? Solid Snake confirmed? Chrono Confirmed? Endou Mamoru Confirmed? Lightning Confirmed? Phoenix Wright Confirmed? Tekken character confirmed? Dante Confirmed? Sora Confirmed? Klonoa Confirmed? Siegfried Confirmed? King of Cosmos Confirmed? anyone confirmed? cannot compute… *EXPLODES*

    • Ren Yuumei

Chill for a sec buttercup, you’ll kill yourself

    • anthony apduhan

      Half Life 3 confirmed?

  • Ren Yuumei

I always never cared for smashes music it was too…….marching band-ish
    I hate marching bands.

    • I actually never noticed this until you said it lol.

    • Heisst

Don’t think you’ve ever listened to Melee or 64’s soundtrack then.

    • So, you don’t like highly orchestrated music? That’s exactly the kind of music the fits the rather serious mood Smash has.
(Of course, I may like it just because I grew up listening to the Pokémon R/S/E soundtrack, but you can’t deny that it somewhat fits the mood.)

    • HarakiriKami

Most of Smash music fits either Rock, Jazz,Electronic in addition to Big Band.

These songs arent using an Orchestra so the correct term is Big Band

  • That’s quite an impressive list, considering there are heaps of composers that have worked on games completely unrelated to Nintendo. But I gotta say, I loved the soundtrack for Brawl and I can’t wait to hear the full list for this one. I’m actually listening to the songs on the official website right now. And that’s an awesome idea, to be able to listen to the music while the 3DS sleeps like the 3DS is an MP3 Player or something.

    • Agito

the 3ds sound app does that actually. you need the song in the memory card for it to work though.

      • Well, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info. Thing is, I only use my 3DS for games. Why would I ever touch some useless sound app on a games console?

        • Agito

well i lost my phone so i was curious to see if my 3ds could play music. So under normal circumstances i would’ve never tried that.

          • Oh wow. I can totally understand that. I lost count of all the phones I lost during my high school years. Lucky for me, I still have my old iPod for just such an emergency. xD

          • Agito

always have a back-up music player. because lord knows i can’t trust my brain to remember where i left my phone XD

        • Suicunesol

“Why would I ever touch some useless sound app on a games console?”

Because it’s a sound app made by Nintendo. Try it. Fiddle around with it. You’ll see what I mean.

          • Actually, I have. Some of the features are rather interesting for a sound app, but ultimately, I found it to be a useless addition for the 3DS. Well, that’s just my opinion. I’m sorry if I offended you, but that’s how I feel.

  • Go2hell66

damn i thought i knew a lot of composers until i saw this list

  • Wow, Shota Kageyama is my favorite Pokémon composer.
Good to see they picked the right composer for the Pokémon remixes.

    • DeadLineDance

My favorite too! I mean, Masuda’s old-school tunes are all well and good, but I absolutely love Kageyama’s work in 5th and 6th gen.

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

There should be a Smash Bros. concert!

  • DeadLineDance

At least half of all music I listen to is video game music. This list makes me extremely happy.
Legends like Sakuraba and Shimomura, smaller favorites like Hamauzu, Kageyama, and Tanioka. But most of all, the greatest of all time, I literally choked up a little when I read his name, Yasunori Mitsuda.

    • DeadLineDance

Sorry for double-post, but I found this from another source and wanted to share. “Play in Sleep Mode” is the BEST. THING. EVARRR.

      • Oxybelis

Audio quality on 3DS will be shitty though. 3DS audio output is bad too.

Needs rip from Wii U version.

        • Chaos_Knight

Are you sure your own headphones are not shitty? I played Pokemon X, Kingdom Hearts 3D, aqnd Kid Icarus: Uprising and the audio is not terrible.

          • Oxybelis

It’s not awful, but not very enjoyable.

Also all audio on 3DS is 32Khz.

          • HarakiriKami

            Stop being silly Sly

        • Suicunesol

3DS speakers aren’t great. But that’s where it ends. Plug your 3DS into good speakers or headphones and you’re set. Audio quality should be no different from a phone or Ipod.

        • DeadLineDance

Harsh! I’ll take what I can get for free with the game, though.

Alright, you can listen to the music in sleep mode! Best Smash-news today! Good design choice.

  • Triplicity

Amazing lineup! Hopefully that’ll lighten the sting from having only two tracks per stage on the 3DS version a little.

    • I don’t have a problem with that at all. Brawl had a bazillion tracks per stage, but a lot of them – even from big-name composers – were surprisingly forgettable compared to Melee, which only had two. I’d rather they focus on quality over quantity any day.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

This is for 3DS and Wii U ya know. Just saying, it’s not ONLY 3DS composers.

    • The website states “Musicians of Nintendo 3DS version” quite clearly.

      • NintendoPSXTheSecond

So you actually believe they’re going to spend all this money to hire all these composers for one game and NOT use them again for the other one?
You believe they’re going to hire 30 or so OTHER composers with a huge history for just the Wii U and not cycle the ones before? Puhlease.

        • That’s not the point. The point is that they say these are for the 3DS version, and until the Wii U version is confirmed to be the exact same list, that’s what we’re reporting.

          • Highasthesky

Good on you. I much prefer facts than made up BS.

          • Daniel

Good thing im getting both then

If I were a betting man I’d say it specifies the 3DS because all of these composers are featured on the 3DS version as stages have specific music and the 3DS and WiiU versions are confirmed to have different stages. There are some shared stages and other opportunities to play music (menus and such) but the music by specific composers on the 3DS-only stages are on this list and not necessarily the ones for the WiiU version. Makes sense to focus on 3DS game information since it will release fairly soon and well before the WiiU version.

Not only the stage exclusivity, but the game mode exclusivity as well. Smash Run will certainly have its own music and a composer that only worked on music for that game mode wouldn’t have their work appear on the WiiU version since, you know, that mode’s not going to be on it.

So specifying the 3DS version makes sense.

        • Most likely the two versions share many, but not all music tracks (depending on the number of shared stages). I can see the Wii U version having, like, one new arrangement by Koji Kondo or something that wasn’t in the 3DS version.

        • AuraGuyChris

Well, yes, because there’s only two tracks per stage in the 3DS version.

        • HarakiriKami

Because there are series with stages not on the Wii U version mate.

3DS is mostly fill of handheld series + games

  • 永次

Motoi Sakuraba and Kenji Ito, thanks god.

    • MrSirFeatherFang

Kenji Ito needs more love. I absolutely love his music.

      • 永次

Romancing SaGa 1-2-3 soundtrack was gorgeous.

  • RunningWild1984

I know Chrono Trigger and the Tekken guy(s). And that’s it.

    • AkuLord3

Need to expand on ur music artists, Wild~

  • AkuLord3

So many favorites and surprises, this will be great 83

  • KingGunblader

    Xenoblade composers? That’s fucking ACE.

    • Chaos_Knight

      Shulk confirmed.

      • 하세요

Masashi Hamauzu? Lightning confirmed. She always, always returns.

        • gulabjamal

        • KingGunblader

Say what you will about the XIII series, but I always thought it had some pretty great music. (The first one moreso than its sequels)

          • 하세요

Oh I’m not saying anything bad about the XIII series. Shit, I personally enjoyed it very much and the music is fantastic. I was merely making a Lightning Returns pun.

      • Kornelious

        Hell’s Yeah!

      • AuraGuyChris

        And Monokuma and Jude Mathis.

    • Brilliant pun. I’m trying to resist making the same.

  • Ric Vazquez

Oh wow! I’m seeing some big names for my childhood there!

  • ivanchu77

No Nobuo Uematsu makes me sad :( , but still a amazing list, can´t wait to hear the entire OST!

    • HarakiriKami

      maybe we’ll get TLS representation in smash on Wii U ;____;

  • Ali

I didn’t realise how many composers I knew by heart until I read this list. Himt: They’re A LOT!

  • Ecchitori

It’s so nice to see some big names here. It’s gonna one hell of an OST..

  • Spirit Macardi

Sadly I don’t see Kanako Kakino on the cast from Namco. But knowing them, they probably fired her a while ago…

    • Hmmm. I can’t think of anything she’s worked on recently (but I will go find her last work). It would be cool to see her composing for Smash, but I think we’d have to wait until Klonoa returns this gen. He has to eventually. If they bothered with a Wii remake, I think they’ll do something else again.

      • Spirit Macardi

There’s been rumor of HD ports of the remake and Lunatea’s Veil on some Italian gaming sites, but they’re just that…

Granted Namco can no longer use the “it doesn’t sell” excuse, since the VC port of Empire of Dreams did pretty darn well. Plus they’ve made sequels to games that sold worse since then.

        • Guh. I wish they would. That would be so fantastic. ♥
I want Moonlight Museum to get a port and remake too~.

. . .Wait. Empire of Dreams was VC ported? Do you mean only in Japan, or. . ?

          • Spirit Macardi

Empire of Dreams is on the Wii U VC in the US.

You’re probably thinking of Legend of the Star Medal. That was the only GBA entry that was Japan only.

If they did port the remake though, I’d want them to fix the character name screw-ups and replace Eric Stitt with a VA who can actually sound like a young boy (I’d cast Cassandra Lee in a heartbeat!).

          • Oh! I guess I forgot that! (/whatiswrongwithme)

Cassandra Lee always works for me~!
I do want unreleased/localized Klonoa games to get some kind of love this gen though. . .

  • Jonah Paley

    oh. my god.

Yasunori Mitsuda. My FAVORITE video game composer of all time. (Sorry Nobuo Uematsy, you’re in 2nd place.)

Yoko Shimomura. Shoto Kageyama. Masashi Hamauzu. Kumi Tanioaka. Masafumi Takada. Nobuko Toda (In addition to Metal Gear stuff, Toda worked on some of the tracks for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I wasn’t aware of her contributions to either until I looked up her name just now, though, especially since on the FFXIV: ARR OST, she’s listed by the name of her music production company, Film Score, rather than by her actual name.)

This list is eargasmic! Can’t wait to see what the Wii-U version will have!

As for the lack of Nobuo Uematsu, remember, he only did 1 track for Brawl as far as I can remember, the main theme. Still, sad to not see him on this list. Maybe for the Wii-U version of the list?

  • David García Abril

  • YES Koshiro and Shimomura!

  • So very glad to see ACE on there. Everything they did for Xenoblade was stellar. Hopefully, after they reveal Shulk or whoever from that game, we get to hear some of the music from the Xenoblade stage.

    • Kornelious

I’m with you on that one! :D

    • SetzerGabbiani

Just now playing through my copy of Xenoblade, and the music is amazing. The daytime music in the plains on Bionis’ leg O_o ..!!!!! I really hope they use an arrangement of that music or even the original in the game.

  • Codename: D.A.V.I.D.

Cool, Yasunori Mitsuda! Who knows? Maybe… :3

  • Nice! Koshiro, ACE+, Shimomura, Sakuraba & Mitsuda. LOL even the Danganronpa composer joining in too. I really wanted Koji Kondo in the team but still the list made me impressed though.

  • Yan Zhao

Holy they got quite the all star cast of composers here. Only notable one missing is Uematsu from the early FInal Fantasy games but when the rest of the cast is so solid, cant really complain. You cant have them all.

Motoi Sakuraba is in and that’s all I care about :3

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    Masafumi Takada!

  • wahyudil

    Yasunori mitsuda!!! Motoi Sakuraba!!!!

  • Traveler

    They got Sakuraba OMG!!!

  • AceEsper

Tetsuya Shibata? Motoi Sakuraba? Yoko Shimomura? Keiichi Okabe?! That’s it, we’re done. Best soundtrack of the year, no questions asked.

    • gulabjamal

Agreed. I was sold at Keiichi Okabe

  • gulabjamal

Omg Michiko Naruke, my Wild ARMs woman returns!! Loveee her compositions like no other. And she arranged the Ocarina of Time medley in Brawl.

Also holy crap Keiichi Okabe, the man behind the NieR soundtrack which is arguably one of the best VG soundtracks ever made! Also Kenji Ito and ACE and Junichi Nakatsuru and Sakuraba… TOO MAN DAMN GOOD REASONS TO GET THIS GAME!!!

    • I know, right!? Seeing Michiko Naruke still there is so exciting!

There’s a lot of fantastic names up there~!
I feel brawl was worth it for the OST alone, and this time looks to be the same. x’D

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

?! I hope the game comes with the soundtrack!

    * Ahem sound test*

  • Raymond

Motoi Sakuraba’s music is in the game but i can’t get one tales char in super smash?! T_T
    Oh well….

    • I believe he composed last time too, so it’s probably just a matter of keeping him, regardless. What would have been cool would have been a Baten Kaitos character (since it was Nintendo-exclusive and composed by him).

      • Kaetsu

Kalas would be an awesome edition to Smash Bros. It would be so easy to come up with a move set for him.

EDIT: Also Baten Kaitos is a Nintendo and Bandai Namco game so there would be no issue getting him in the game since Bamco is working on Smash. It’s most likely that Shulk will appear in the game but it would be cool for Monolith to have another representative.

        • I would love that!

Ohh~! Smart! I completely overlooked that, but you’re right! That would be pretty snazzy. I hope that one day, that could become a reality. ♥

      • Nintendo and Bamco alike seem to have forgotten Baten Kaitos exists… ;_;

        • Kaetsu

In 2010 the director of Baten Kaitos said he was working on a secret project and then in 2011 Monolith Soft revealed concept art(by the same guy) that looked like Baten Kaitos and I don’t think they’ve mentioned anything since :/ Unless we hear something next year then it was probably cancelled.

          • Oh believe me, I’ve been following every new development from Yasuyuki Honne and Monolith Soft Kyoto with all the obsessive intensity that only a burned-out, blueballed fan can muster…

        • I know. ;u;
There was a light reference to it that could become something (unless that project is cancelled?), but I wish they’d give it more love.

  • RagingTiger44

I see they got Yoko Shimomura. Nice.

  • Yuzo Koshiro is the greatest of all time debate me

    • 하세요

Debating preferences? That’ll be fun and everyone will win.

  • Kaetsu

I’m not seeing any love for Yuzo Koshiro in the comments(except for the comment below me). This is madness! Listen to this:

  • Kaetsu

Also having Masashi Hamauzu is a win in my books

  • Invisbin

  • Kaihedgie

I had a feeling or at least hopin’ that Yuzo was on board this

  • Phoenix_Apollo

Aside from Yuki Kaijura, this is pretty much everyone I could ever want composing this game. I’m pretty happy about it.

  • DivinePhoenix69

Seeing the names of all of these legendary composers along with the more recent ones is enough to get me excited. October please be here already!

  • Kroz

Wow pretty much every major composer I can think of, so unexpected.

    • Kaetsu

      Brawl was like this too.

      • Kroz

        “the more you know”

    • Heisst

Yet no Uematsu or Kondo, two of the biggest videogame composers in the industry. Not as big but still a miss: Kenji Yamamoto.

  • YESSS! I can’t tell if the list is longer, but it is just as glorious. I am so excited! >u<

  • Nonomino

I was hoping for Hitoshi Sakimoto, but oh well. There are other amazing composers.

  • Kornelious

Wow! They have Sakuraba and Shimomura….I don’t even think they contributed characters to this game! This is gonna be Awesome!

But most importantly they have ACE….The Xenoblade Soundtrack maker…..I know it’s a long-shot since they have SO many other composers but I thinks it’s just about safe to say the Shulk, is confirmed! :D

    • HarakiriKami

      They have mitsuda too.

  • Kelohmello

You had me at Hamauzu. And like 10 other composers on this list. Brawl also had an amazing all star crew of composers, and Kid Icarus Uprising as well. I gotta say, Sakurai definitely knows what he’s doing when it comes to this.

  • Mike Pureka

Good god. Maybe we should just make a game in which all these composers battle it out. o.o

  • With a list like this any complaint is bound to sound like nitpicking, but: the one name not on here that I would’ve loved to see is Hitoshi Sakimoto. It’s too bad Nobuo Uematsu and Koji Kondo (!!!) don’t seem to be coming back from Brawl either. Also: all these Bamco-affiliated names, and no Go Shiina?? Sad.

Anyway though, great list overall. I’m especially glad to see Yasunori Mitsuda, Masafumi Takada and Hirokazu Tanaka returning. Kumi Tanioka and Masashi Hamauzu are great new additions, as well.

    • Triplicity

Oh damn, you’re right. Go Shiina would have been sick.

    • AuraGuyChris

All Uematsu did was compose the main theme, didn’t he?

      • Yeah, and Koji Kondo only arranged one track. But that was still something!

    • I think Sakimoto would be on the Wii U one for a stage, but I will be a bit devastated if he doesn’t make it (is anyone from Basiscape on there?). I didn’t realize Koji Kondo is not up there though. . .

  • Souffrir

You seriously included Inazuma Eleven as one of Mitsuda’s main compositions, and not Chrono Cross, which as near as I can tell is *the* most universally agreed-upon great video game soundtrack?

    • AuraGuyChris

Chrono Trigger has more value than Chrono Cross, though I did love the soundtrack for both.

    • KoRLumen

This is the list on the website, provided by Nintendo.

    • The list was clearly written by the Japanese side to reflect popular/iconic series, which Inazuma Eleven is over there.

Similarly, listing that One Piece exhibition thing under ACE’s credentials doesn’t mean much to most of us but in Japan One Piece is a pop-cultural juggernaut so that’s a big damn deal.

    • 하세요

I’ve never heard anyone praise Chrono Cross’s OST. It’s not bad, but the only Chrono people praise is Trigger.

    • Princess_Eevee9

That’s not how you spell Donkey Kong.~

  • Izzeltrioum

Damn it Sakurai where are the 2 gods of BGM composing?

  • Niermyico
  • HarakiriKami

Y’all should have mentioned Golden Sun/Valkyrie Profile/Baten Kaitos under Motoi Sakuraba

  • MrSirFeatherFang

So they put down SaGa Frontier II for Hamazu <3

Lots of good composers here, hopefully they add more for the Wii U version! Hiroki Kikuta would be rad.

  • Juhata

    -Yoko Shimomura
    -Keiki Kobayashi
    -Yasunori Mitsuda
    -Motoi Sakuraba
    -Yuzo Koshiro

This lineup is way more orgasmic than Xenoblade’s composer list. And Xenoblade’s composer list was freaking amazing.
    The hype is real.

    • HarakiriKami

Manami Kiyota contributed so many glorious soundtracks to Xenoblade tho

  • NightzeroAX

Masashi Hamauzu? Oh god yes. This list is epic.

  • SetzerGabbiani

I hope to Cthulu that Uematsu composes the intro for the Wii U version. You don’t have a sound orgy of Smash Bros. caliber without one of the legends.

  • Quizler

With all those [email protected] composers they better stick “Ai like hamburger” into a warioware stage or something, it’s the only place I can see it happen

  • Raltrios

    >Yoko Shimomura
    >Motoi Sakuraba

I’m set. That’s all I needed. My ears are ready.
