Final Fantasy Explorers Details The Paladin, Ranger, And The Shiva Boss Fight

Square Enix shared details on a few Final Fantasy Explorers jobs with Knight, Monk, and Black Mage. Below is a look at more details on the Paladin and Ranger jobs, along with a closer look at the Ice Queen Shiva, and more.

Paladins have high defense and play the role of a tank. They excel at physical and magic attacks, but due to their lack of mobility, they stick around on the frontlines as a shield for the party.

2 3

Their ability called “Absolute Domain” can be used to protect themselves and allies around them from enemy attacks. In addition to tanking, they can also provide the party with some support as well.

4 5

The Paladin’s “Deflect” ability lets them use their shield to defend attacks from enemies. This is their go-to move as a tank. “Spinning Edge” is one of their offensive moves that can hit enemies around them.

Rangers are long-ranged damage-dealers. They might not be as strong as the melee damage-dealers, but they can use various status inflicting attacks. Their defense is on the lower side, so they’re not too great when it comes to close-ranged combat.

7 8

Their best feature is the ability to attack from a distance, but they also have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves with their physical and status effect attacks.

9 10 11

The “Abyss Shot” can do different effects like poison or paralysis. The “Arrow Rain” ability is recommended to use when the tank gets hate from the monsters.

Moving along, Shiva the “Ice Queen” hangs out in the the dim cave known as the Tinz Underpass, where you’ll fight her. There are crystal-like parts throughout the cave, along with plenty of water-based monsters.

The Tinz Lake is where Shiva can be found. The place is dark and cold, and seems to be covered entirely in ice. There’s also a throne-like object that is made of ice, so it’s safe to assume that it’s where Shiva sits.

19 20

Shiva has appeared throughout the series since Final Fantasy III, and this time, she’ll be putting her icy powers to take on the Explorers. In Final Fantasy Explorers, she’s covered by an extremely cold aura that puts a freezing effect on anyone who gets near.

23 25

Once you’re in a freeze status, your movement will be limited, so it’ll be worth making sure you don’t get too close to the aura while taking her on. She also has moves like “Blizzard” and “Frozen World” that brings out spikes made of ice from the ground.

And let’s not forget about her trademark move, “Diamond Dust,” which is shown in the above image.

Final Fantasy Explorers will be released in Japan on December 18th, 2014. The game has yet to be announced for release in the West.

I’d like to “hang out” with Shiva!

    • fyi1191

      Don’t you mean “chill out”?

      • Namuro

Damn it, your comment made me think of Shiva saying “Stay cool!” in Arnold’s voice! XD

        • J_Joestar

          Very nICE!

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Already going to play as Paladin and Monk…in love with this game already

    • natchu96

Yeah, I just feel like getting up close and personal punching things in the face.

This game sounds awesome and has room for strategy.

  • Lastlight

    This game looks pretty cool

  • This game looks amazing. I’m looking forward for a western release.

  • The ranger looks like Agnes.

    • J_Joestar

And the Paladin looks like Cecil (though that is to be expected).

      • Lastlight

He looks more like Cecil’s son

  • Something I’ve been wondering – Is each class separate from another or do some “advance” to the other? For example, is Paladin just a stronger version of the Knight class or does the Knight class have its own separate perks? It does seem to be a bit faster.

I hope that each class stands alone just so there’s a larger variety to choose from, but if not I won’t be too disappointed.

    • J_Joestar

I think they’ll be stand alones, but there will probably be some overlap between them. Like both Pally and Knights having strong defenses to act as tanks, but Pally may get more support techniques to strengthen the team while the Knight would have better direct combat abilities or something like that.

      • Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for. It’s been stated that the Paladin has poor mobility, but I’ve seen the Knight moving very quickly in the videos so maybe they have a trade-off for speed.

I always prefer the standalone system in games, so hopefully they do so in this game!

    • 하세요

Hopefully they are like the job system is in FFXI / XIV. Sure some may be prerequisites to unlock another, but the roles are still different. Warrior may tank low level stuff, but later on the damage is where it matters while Paladin takes over the tank role.

  • Kornelious

Paladin looks cool, And it looks like Explores is taking the FFXIV approach to the Summons by having you fight them in an all-out all or nothing fight!…..Not that I’m complaining :D

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

Well we won’t get Dragon Quest X but I’d settle for this game.

    • John Pena

I know how you feel, im a big DQ fan. But I have already given up on Square Enix, I just don’t care what they bring anymore!

  • 하세요

I am beyond sold at this point. I hope Blue Mage turns out great or whatever version of “Monster Attacks” job they go with.

  • SetzerGabbiani

I have to say that I’m a bit underwhelmed with what we’ve seen so far. Nothing about this game has inspired a “must have” reaction from me. Maybe once we know a bit more about the other systems the game has I’ll be more on board.

    • HarakiriKami

      Did you read about resonance?

  • Shive is blonde now? I liked her FF8 version the best

    • Misty Dawson

I’ve been fond of her art in Revenant Wings, FFX, XI, and Type-0. Everything else has been nice but those ones are just the best.

    • Dystopiq

I remember seeing that version. I was 12. Oh boy!

    • 하세요

X’s Shiva will always be my favorite, but overall she’s my favorite summon so I like all of her versions.

  • Dark Lord Ash

Don’t know if this was covered yet, but I wanted to know if you’ll be able to level up each class and gain their abilities which you would be able to use on other classes like in FFV/FFT/BD.

    • YouGusta

I really hope we can do that!
Personally I dont mind spending 1000+ hour to level up each classes :P

    • They’ve said you can use other class abilities within any class, but it will cost more “points” to assign abilities that aren’t native to a class. Black mages can learn black magic at half the normal cost, for example.

Additionally, it’s been said that you can learn skills without having to even play the other class. They don’t want to force you to play a class you don’t like just to get certain skills. Coolest game ever.

      • Dark Lord Ash

Alright, now we’re cookin’. Thanks for the info. Oh the combos I’m going to be messing around with.

  • Vash bane

I completely understand the hype here. still sucks we are the bad guys this time around….oh screw it lol who didn’t want to play as bad guys this time around? :)

    • Misty Dawson

I dont think it’s clearly been stated who is bad and whatnot. Just because we’re fighting the Summons doesnt mean we are bad guys.

      • Vash bane

I don’t remember but I think t was stated somewhere. but I guess that or humans are just darn selfish in this title …or thief’s XD

  • James Enk

i am slowly getting excited about this game

    • Ric Vazquez

      Same here

  • KanjiLikesBoys

Ranger outfit is not as cute as it’s counterpart Dressphere in Bravely Default..hope we can customize the armor/look

  • Ric Vazquez

The hype is building up on this one
