Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U Shows How Video Game Magazine Mascots Fight

By Sato . August 22, 2014 . 2:12am

Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U is an upcoming action game spinoff by Tamsoft featuring various CPUs and their sisters for PlayStation Vita. Compile Heart recently shared their latest batch of videos that showcase the CPU sisters and a couple special guests.

Similar to her older sister Neptune, Nepgear plays a simple style without too many extravagant movements. Her SP skills in “Slash Wave” and “Multiple Beam Launcher” are powerful moves that can take out a bunch of nearby enemies.

Lastation’s CPU Candidate Uni specializes in shooting attacks with her gun. By going into her HDD form, she can increase her shot output and overall damage, allowing her to easily wipe out groups of enemies.

Unlike the other characters, Lowee’s Rom specializes in using magic to fight enemies. Her combo move’s finishing hit called “Thunderbolt” is a powerful move that can attack enemies in a straight line. She also has her EXE Drive move that can take out nearby foes.

Similar to her twin sister Rom, Ram also uses some magic, with attacks like “Aero-Tornado” that activates as a combo finisher and hits surrounding enemies. Her EXE Drive covers less area than Rom’s, but it does more damage to make up for it.

The video game news reporter Dengekiko looks like she’ll do all kinds of moves that may have appeared in some popular stories. She can also transform to increase the power of her many attacks. Her EXE Drive involves a certain sword we’ve seen somewhere before…

Finally, the other guest video game news reporter Famitsu fights with a comical giant shrimp weapon that she swings around. The reporters have more SP than even the CPUs at the earlier levels. Her “Powerful Stamp” SP attack is her go-to move that hits all surrounding enemies.

Ultra Dimension Action Neptunia U will be released on August 28, 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

    Uni will break the game.

  • Ren Yuumei

    Welp Dengekiko my favorite now

  • Shippoyasha

That Famitsu girl looks very much like Misty especially after the clothes damage.

  • Christopher C

Sorry Blanc, Dengeki might be my favorite to play as…
    1. Blanc v Dengeki
    2. loser of ^^^
    3. Nepgear
    4. Neptune
    5. Uni
    6. Noire
    7. Ram
Don’t think I’ll be using Rom, Vert, or Famitsu.

I really hope the costumes don’t break that easy. Also if this is the Ultra Dimension why hasn’t Plutia or Peashy been announced? But the other CPU’s are in their Hyperdimension costumes… I’m confused now… The game looks like it’ll be fun at least and going CPU on a crowd of that size seems like it’ll be pretty satisfying. Uni looks like she’ll dominate the battle field after she transforms, though I’ll probably still main her sister.

    • Maksim Tsirulnik

      It’s neither actually.

This is a spin off much in the same vane as “PP” and “Gekishin Black Heart”. These games aren’t canon and are more “what if” scenarios that just happen to have the same characters.

  • Yan Zhao

Worth it for Uni stripped alone.

  • Lastlight

    Famitsu and Dengekiko look cool

Okay, I have to say it, but the way they’re pushing the costume break as the main selling point of this game is killing me. Tamsoft, I am disappointed in you. You get your hands on the Neptunia IP and you turn it into SK Lite. How can you take an established series like this and just make this sudden left turn into fanservice field? Now I do love me some fanservice, but they way it’s been implemented and marketed with this game, this series, and this developer, just screams to me ‘cash in on a current trend’. I don’t think the Neptunia series needs or warrants this, and if this continues with future games in this series, I’m going to wash my hands clean of it. I love the Neptunia games, but I’m done.

Having got that off my chest, the gameplay videos are really nice and I love the battle system they’ve implemented for this game, but of course they stop and have to show off the costume break in each and every video. I really hope it’s not that easy to break the costumes in-game, or better yet, I hope there’s an option to turn it off.

    • Kayseur

I didn’t see anything about turning it off, but one of the article at Dengeki said some costumes were going to be harder to break than others. That’s not too bad if they are actually truly harder to break.

But I completely agree with you. Those preview videos are super lame, they’re called gameplay but it’s mostly costume break exhibition for no reason, they’re able to make good games, yet they focus on this ridiculous trend. And each time there’s a scan, it’s ALWAYS quoted as one of the main feature. Vastly annoying.

I think that’s what irks me the most too, is that Tamsoft actually makes great games! For as much as I personally don’t care for SK, it has a solid gameplay experience. They’ve just been slathering the fanservice sauce over everything recently so much, and they don’t need to do it to sell games! Don’t put the focus on the ridiculous trend! Let the gameplay speak for itself!

    Uni!! _<

Btw, does anyone know about the swimsuit costume? Are those limited edition bonus or first-print edition bonus?

  • Kornelious

C’mon! Localize this already! I need some Neptune action (Literally) We haven’t had a good Neptune game in ages!……Yes I know Rebirth is coming out next week but I’m a greedy person ok!? XD

  • Shade DMessiah

I’ve come to dislike ecchi in stuff like this. Not for any good reason either. I don’t like it solely for the fact that we get the little boys afraid to see ecchi in any way, shape, or form and the wannabe feminists complaining about it like it’s the worst thing to ever be created.

I hope japanese developers (or hell anime studios) never stop doing this JUST so it can be there to bother the complainers.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to say, this game looks freakin awesome.

  • Vash bane

I’m not familiar with any of the characters lol so I literally have no idea what that …axe looking thing is from (couldn’t see it) oh…nvm lol I saw it but still have no clue where its from

but anyway this game does indeed look cool (this is a musou like game right?) even tho I have no idea what he series is about and seeing this is a spin off I don’t need to know right?
    (o.O so many colors)

    • masterhiro

when she pauses and a white box shows up its the menu from SAO which she uses to dual wield kirito’s sword

  • masterhiro

    SAO reference nice

  • Lastlight

I might skip Senran Kagura for this

  • AkiraScare

    Imouto Paradise?!!!! (*_*)

  • DingLayGorFe

Localize it already. Day 1 for West release
