Shin Megami Tensei IV Delayed To Late October In Europe

By Ishaan . September 2, 2014 . 8:18pm

Shin Megami Tensei IV’s European release has been delayed from September to October, Atlus said today. John Hardin, Atlus USA’s PR Manager, revealed the news via Twitter.

“After some unscheduled changes to the SMTIV mobile website raised some eyebrows, a lot of you asked for more details, so I’ll be upfront. We encountered a few last-minute issues specific to the EU version, and we have to fix them,” Hardin said to his Twitter followers.

“Given the current timelines for production, it looks like SMTIV won’t be out in EU until late October.”

Hardin added that the issue was such that Atlus had no other recourse than to ask fans to wait a little longer. “We’re doing everything we can to get the game out in Europe as fast as we can, so please bear with us,” he said.

I’m sorry. I’m so sorry EU. Maybe the rumor about the New 3DS being region free will come true if we spread it enough!

    • Rinne111

I wish it was but sadly no it is worse enough it is digital only while US got all the extras too

    • epndkempot

      +1 for Innocent Sin’s reference

    • dam4rus

I actually started thinking about importing an USA New 3DS XL… This is getting ridiculous… Ohh well, at least i can buy Hyrule Warriors this month without the fear of starvation. Two games this month would really hurt my wallet.

  • Rinne111

At this point it will never come to Europe just accept it and move on with other games

  • ThatGuy3190_7

    Well, it’s still coming.

  • Aspenharls

Hah. I’m sorry, I just find this downright humorous at this point. It’s like Atlus is trying to troll Europe.

    • Thatguy

      trying?

      • Rinne111

Well NISA could easily publish SMTIV in Europe like they are doing with Persona Q

    • http://twitter.com/GNPixie Lynx

I think they’ve succeeded at this point.

They really need to establish an Atlus Europe or something.

    • Noelemahc

They’ve been doing this for over a decade, starting with SMTIII releasing a year and a half later than in USAica.

      • Ninten

Uh, Nocturne came out like 7-8 months after the US version. And frankly, the PS2 era wasn’t even as bad as the last 5 years.

  • AnnoNomis

Just when I thought I could buy the game this month, I read this and lost my sense of hype once again. It’s already been a year and a month and a bit since the US release. Seeing how the European release will essentially be the US version of the game, I don’t see what else could be causing delays.

If SMTIV truly is being released late October, Atlus should at the very least make some of the DLC free as compensation for the very long wait. Even better, the game should have a sale or something in its first week of release.

Atlus should really show more love for Europe :(

  • Yoshinatsu

    Just great.

  • idrawrobots

    COME ON!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

lol damn you guys still didn’t get it? Goddamn

  • Adrian Duran

hopefully we get Smash on time

    • Uvers

why shouldn’t we its by nintendo not some retarded company that refuses to make an EU or international division but no instead they decide to have their USA division focus on europe when it has the spare time

  • Revolver Jesus Super Pimp

    LOL damn still?

  • Quizler

Oh boy, here we go again…

  • Kroz

wait this game is still not out there yet?…
I don’t live there but I have sympathy for you guys.

  • nedul

Does anyone over there even care about this game anymore?

    • Mr_SP

Sort of. I want, but it’s hard to get hyped.

    • persona_yuji

Well I do. After all this sh*t, even more the reason to want this game just to show Atlus that Europe also want their games.

    • Ash_Riot

Sure I care, this is mainline SMT after all…

  • Noelemahc

It better not get EU-exclusive bugs like Devil Survivor Overclocked did, or it’s definitely gonna look like ATLUS is deliberately messing with us.

    • British_Otaku

While it was eventually patched and they still bought us DSO and DS2 retail releases, that was amazingly poor form on their part.

I assume the delay is to remove the EU-exclusive bugs, I mean they get a poor rep back then but this is a game that no one can import in anyway.

    • Uvers

the localisation for overclocked was done by ghostlight not atlus

      • All Fiction

Actually Ghostlight stated that they couldn’t touch the code so the programming was done by Atlus, who managed to shove in the gamebreaking bugs.
Ghostlight wasn’t at fault, it was Atlus (once again)

        • Uvers

I see it seems they’ve got some vendetta against european gamers

          • Ash_Riot

A French or British guy must have banged the executives wives, or something.

        • Tom_Phoenix

Just to be clear, that’s Atlus JP, not Atlus USA. It is standard for the original developers to handle the programming.

  • Pdugna

SMT4 and EU just really don’t like each other that much it seems and that sucks =/

    • Ash_Riot

I’m seriously awaiting Persona 5 getting region locked and taking over two years after the US release for us to get it. We don’t matter, after all.

  • Randgriz

    Another £5 off, yeah?

    • Prinnydoom

      Seems fair. Given the wait.

  • persona_yuji

What did we do to deseve this…

  • Ninten

That’s still not a solid release date. I seriously think it’s better to move onto Persona Q at this point.

This is bound to get delayed even further and Atlus USA is busy with Ultimax and Persona Q too, so of course they are going to shaft their EU fans waiting for SMT4 even more.

  • JuVu

Personally, I have stopped caring. I like to give my support for companies that actually do care about Europe.

  • landlock

. “We’re doing everything we can to get the game out in Europe as fast as we can, so please bear with us,” I would be laughing so hard if I wasn’t crying.

  • Rusworch

I’d be mad but then I would’ve had to actually care about this game at some point.

  • Abysswalker90

Just a wild guess, but…. 100$ that it won’t even get released this year. And by wild guess I mean that there’s no doubt about it, so make it 1000$.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

    Welp, that isnt very encouraging

  • Haganeren

When this game cames out in Japan, i would never have guessed i would play it AFTER Smash 4 !

  • British_Otaku

Glad I stopped caring about the localisation a long time ago, the waiting for a digital only release was a little much. That said, it is nice that they are planning to refine these problems as I would be even more bitter at a broken product which releases pretty late than a functional one that releases later than that.

Patches can only repair so much of your reputation.

  • Amagidyne

…and I actually just bought a bigger memory card for my 3DS, SPECIFICALLY for this game.

Clearly my two biggest mistakes were getting hyped for this game and living in the EU.

  • zuuum

It was probably mean to be released on the 30th September anyway.:D (trying to cheer up everybody)

  • Prinnydoom

SOM OF A BI- COME ON. Ughhh don’t think I’ve actually ever been this annoyed by a delay ever! Sure it’s only a month and sure that gives me time to play over stuff, but someone out there needs to get their act together. *Sigh* I’ll stop now.

  • Cyrus

Good thing I imported it last year, I beat the system, take that Europe.

  • SirRichard

If they were trying to get it out as fast as they can, it’d have been out for months now with an NISA logo on it. This really is just a bad joke at this point.

  • https://www.behance.net/tiphaniede Tiphanie De

    LOOOOOOOL

  • Prithivi

Maybe they are having trouble distributing the game throughout all of Europe. Oh, wait…

  • Hexodious

I’m going to spoil the entire P4AU storyline to show Atlus how I think about this.

    • AnimeRemix

Not sure what you expect to accomplish by doing that since many others have already spoiled the story, but whatever float your boat, I guess.

      • Hexodious

That’s the joke. If I had the payment method to buy P4AU to spoil everything than I could buy SMT IV instead.

  • shadowind

    Why am I not surprised…

  • Namuro

Hey, better late than never, right?

  • Uvers

there’s no point in me getting this game no more, even if its at reduced price for digital only, there are too many games out in late October firstly freedom wars is out on Oct 31st, followed by tales of hearts R, Pokemon omega ruby and Persona Q in November so i don’t see the point, I’d boycott this game but that would back fire since Atlus don’t give us games anyway

  • Agito

Why is it so hard to localise one game! other companies have no problem with it whatsoever and can release it a couple of days after the US version. Pokemon X and Y even did a world wide release and had no problems with it.
Yet this game takes a whole year before it even comes out to Europe. If they know that localising a game to Europe isn’t their strong point then shouldn’t they just leave it to others for that? just… tell me why!

    • ThatGuy3190_7

Nintendo, more specifically the Pokemon division, are well-staffed than Atlus, and the reason of the worldwide release of X and Y is that they had been working on it since B/W1, enough time to establish something that works on all regions of 3DS. While it may seem easy and simple to make a game digital only and release it on eShop, the specs and such varies per region. That being said, it is often more difficult to construct something that caters to European video game devices as opposed to Japan and US devices, although, I do agree that gaming companies in Europe should be bigger due to their apparent popularity.

  • Serph

Wow atlus hates europe so much that they even troll it.

  • Randgriz

My money goes to Tecmo Koei titles now

  • Gust blade

I guess one year wasn’t enough to ensure the us version we’re getting is bug free j/k … I’m just curious about the “issues specific to the EU version” he speak of .

    • Ash_Riot

Changing the title screen copyright from “Index Corporation” to “Atlus USA” and/or “SEGA”? Probably that…

  • triablos

Its coming out between Smash Bros and pokemon ORAS. Sorry but there’s no competition here, SMT4 will have to wait.

There’s also the fact that I’m going to get the N3DS and don’t wanna go through a lot of hassle of transferring.

    • Prinnydoom

Damn straight. SSB is way more important.

      • triablos

Exactly a month left! And same day release for NA and EU!

  • Kalis Konig

Wow. kind of sickening to think these guys still don’t have this game yet.

  • PLA

    Social Link reversed.

  • Desk

    poor Europe :(

  • Frankie

It is sad the game is not out in Europe yet.

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha ha ha oh wow. This is… like, I’m glad that there’s hopefully going to be less bugs, I super am! But at this rate fans waiting for this game must feel like the dog in this comic:

    http://gunshowcomic.com/648

  • Jontaku

    U avin a giggle m8

  • Cadis Etrama Di Umar

    So disappointed

  • kuzuha

Don’t worry Eurobros, you aren’t missing anything.

  • gquain

This game was gathering dust for so long, now before release Atlus finally took a last minute look at it before saying: “Woah, upsie, it’s actually not finished yet. You guys forgot to edit these translated text passages in there. Welp, can’t be helped.”
Though I still won’t buy the game before christmas because I can’t be bothered to pay full price for it when the rest of the world start to discount it for at least half the price. I mean, something is seriously going wrong right now.

    • British_Otaku

Isn’t it a digital only release for us? Getting around or after Christmas is likely to save you no money, America will have a dozen more 3DS sales before we get one the same year a major game from them releases in Europe.

  • Geǿ Marley

Okay, I’m done waiting for this one. It was the only reason I was keeping my 3DS especially after the new 3DS announcement. At least PS3 and PS4 are region free so P5 won’t have to wait.

  • SauriansMaster!!
    • British_Otaku

The title of the petition is cute but if you have an issue with them, you either do it like an ordinary passive aggressive internet browser by posting on the place where you find the information or go directly to their sites.

A petition which will likely not hit 100 even if the game misses this year (I assume the three people will forget about it and support/form another petition which is better if they still care) has no use.

  • zeroroute

I’m not in europe, but now I’m hoping the new 3ds is region free, especially for you guys.

    • nobitakun

The actual 3ds can be region free.

I will not hide it, I was also waiting for this one to come here and again as disapointing as rune factory 4, so I took an alternative way of doing things.

I own a Rune Factory 4 and smt IV copies of us region games so since I was not gonna pay twice for the same game (in fact not the same, I bought smt IV Limited Ed for 30$, way nicer than a digital bulls**t) I spent about the same money in a “magic cart” which enables the hidden functions of the hardware of the 3ds, as they should be (ahem, regionfree, saves backup, multimedia player…), and when smt iv is released in europe I will play it digital with no additional cost since I already bought it.

I’m sorry, you can argue with me as much as you want but I know that what i’m doing is the right way. I dont like to sit down and complain like most people do when there is a true solution for the sake they do not like it. Do you really want to play it? Then look for a solution if you do not want to pay for it digital.

      Those companies
      Those

      • nobitakun

My old damn smartphone does no let me browse nor reply properly discus messages, sorry for the meaningless two last lines.

  • pepsi

Im glad my interest dropped when they announced it was digital only. At this point its just funny.
As if this release wasnt bad enough now its getting released on the same month as super smash brothers and a month before persona q.

  • Rintarou

Wait Europe didn’t have this yet? I’m so sorry guys I won’t complain about Fantasy Life ever again.

    • Nyxeth

A few games haven’t come out here – some because the developers won’t/can’t release them here (like Rune Factory 4) and some because of unknown delays (SMT4) – for the 3DS.

Unfortunately Europe frequently gets the shaft with arbitrary release dates or no release whatsoever, it is only highlighted on the 3DS because of the region locking, on any other system you can simply import the NA release if you really want the game – personally I’ve had to import all the Persona games (except for P4G) thus far because they all had delayed European releases.

      • Ash_Riot

3DS this year has been so crappy in Europe.

        • landlock

Luckily the PSVita has been really strong this year to counter that.

  • Sion12

i understand if they include spanish, german and frence etc but its english only so why and how the hell it takes so long? heck it is digital only so even less reason for delay. surely it is just USA version release with regional code changed what is there to fix? changing word like color to colour?

but meh kinda lost interest in this game long ago anyway

  • Tweetums

Well……I do have to give some thanks to the ridiculous delay of this game here in Europe…
I was originally planing to buy an American 3DS in case they’d never bring it over here, and then when they finally said that it’ll come out in here I planned to buy a 3DS when it does happen.
But THEN we got news of the New3DS coming out, so I’ll just wait for that, even if it’ll take half a year or so to arrive /o/

    • ZEROthefirst

Hey at this rate the game probably won’t even be out until the new 3DS models are.

  • fireguardiancoty

    Yas

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

hahaha, seriously, if they’re not adding additional languages, how hard can it be to swap the region configuration?

I understand it’s probably not as simple as it appears. But I’m genuinely curious about what these issues are. Some kind of arcane feature of the 3DS dev console?

Like, how did EU Devil Survivor end up with game-breaking bugs? What’s going on with 3DS?

  • http://www.lrdalucard.deviantart.com lrdalucard

Eitehr way if this has only ENG-DUB voice acting Im planning not to get it at all…
