Five Years On, K-On Is Back With A New Music Game

It’s been about five years since K-On! blasted their music into our life in anime form. Now, Sega brings word it will be releasing K-On! After School Rhythm Selection, an arcade game based off K-On! After School Live. But first, a location test.

04

The arcade rhythm music title uses the same style of gameplay as After School Live and will go on location test from the 13th to the 15th of September in Japan. After School Rhythm Selection will also feature different versions of seven stages from the After School Live game and seven songs, which we take to mean that’s all you’ll get during the test. No word on final total songs just yet.

05

During the test, the game will allow players to pick up 46 different special K-On! cards, with scenes from the anime. These cards can be used in some way with the machine to get special voiceovers of the characters and there are, of course, rare cards to pick up. There’s also word that the clothes the characters are wearing on their cards will be reflected in-game and the on-screen characters can change uniforms.

02

K-On! After School Rhythm Selection will be out on arcades.

People still care about K-on? O_o

    • Sakurazaki

      <— … uhhh.

      Nope, not me, nope.

    • Morricane

      I hope not…o_O

    • NeptuniasBeard

      *raises hand very slowly*

      M…me…?

    • Shippoyasha

The more I look back on it, the more I like it. It’s impeccably made for what it is.

    • darke

Otaku still make cakes for the girl’s birthdays so apparently so.

Honestly I just think it’s a sign that the show has jumped the shark and they’re just milking the last out of it given there’s been now new anime of it in ages.

    • Renaldi Saputra

In japan it’s so big and can be considered as one of the most memorable series in the viewers mind

      • Jadfish

seriously? I mean I watched and enjoyed it, but that was mostly because of KyoAni being KyoAni. Nichijou was way better IMO.

I would rank K-ON about as high as Hayore Nyarko-san, since both are in the cute girls genre, and both were really fun to watch (sadly, I watch way too much anime I don’t feel strongly about… JoJo is fantastic though)

        • Ni ~Algidus~

yah, seriously. k-on are always coming back on japan. be it on a Trains painting, games, new manga whatever the merchandise the japaneses can think of to slap K-ON! on it. Japan just loves cute girls doing nothing.
Eh, to think that i was a huge K-ON! fan back then

        • Renaldi Saputra

I know, I myself don’t like K-On. I just tell you the fact that it’s very big in japan and became most memorable for the watcher

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

But will it include “My Love is a Stapler”?

  • Postnjam

YES! I can play a game with a plot about girls who procrastinate as a form of procrastination.

  • Shippoyasha

Kind of makes me wonder if they’ll announce the final season of K-On soonish, if this game is any indication.

    • Vallen

The Haruhi fans have been asking that for 5 years

      • Shippoyasha

I feel Haruhi will eventually get tehre. It’s too lucrative a franchise for it not to. I am guessing the disparate light novel releases is not helping.

      • Ni ~Algidus~

*is still waiting for a new Lightnovel*
At least Yuki is getting a anime next year

  • chroma816

A-am I to raise my hopes that we’ll get another season? Be it something during the summer, or their college years? Maybe a new movie? This…this has to mean something, right?

    • Shippoyasha

Azusa and her friends continue the K-On club in the manga (which ended a few years ago) and shows the original members in their college years and that’s the final arc of the overall story. So they will obviously be animating that sometime in the near future hopefully.

      • Kornelious

        Yay! :D

      • Dark Zerato

And the author realized that it was very hard to continue the manga as K-On club without its original members. So he ended the manga.

        • Shippoyasha

Well, the major core of the story was finished after all.

  • Zombie de Rafa
  • Kornelious

Heh, i used to love K-ON……Still holding out for a third season :)

    • WickedKnightAlbel

That would be great. Even 12 episodes would be enough to cover all the college arc, and another 12 could cover the highschool arc.

      • Josh A. Stevens

I would LOVE an adaptation of K-ON! College and K-ON! High School. Especially the former – it was absolutely brilliant (although I felt that it ended a bit too early? Maybe an anime could fix that?)

        • Pdugna

Didn’t the first anime cover the highschool part? I thought the only missing one was College.

          • Ni ~Algidus~

Azusa is still on the high school alongside Jun and Ui. that is what he meant by K-ON High School

          • Josh A. Stevens

“K-ON! High School” follows Azusa, Ui and Jun as members of the Light Music Club in their senior year.

          • Pdugna

Ohh alright so not the original group just the younger siblings, got them mixed up.

  • Spirit Macardi

I’ve only ever seen the K-On movie, and I only saw the movie because Little Kuriboh actually voiced in it x3

  • scdk

Yui saved K-On. Yui saved YOU!

Welcome back, Yui. We missed you.

  • Ren Yuumei

Still like mugi the most. also ITS BEEN 5 YEARS?
