Final Fantasy Explorers lets players transform into heroes from past games. You can morph into Tifa from Final Fantasy VII equipped with her ultimate weapon, the Premium Heart gloves, and use her Final Heaven limit break against enemies.
Aerith from Final Fantasy VII can restore HP and clear negative status effects with Great Gospel, one of her limit breaks from the game.
Cecil from Final Fantasy IV uses Double Phase, an attack that blends both his light and dark sides that comes from Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
Vaan has his Luminescence Quickening from Final Fantasy XII.
Final Fantasy Explorers also brings back many familiar jobs from the series like Thief which was from the first Final Fantasy game. Thief has the ability to steal items from monsters and a skill that reduces the amount of AP consumed while dashing so you can run longer. Surprise Attack is a quick strike with a high critical rate. Chaos Trip inflicts poison and burn statues that sap HP from a target.
Chemists are item masters. Just like other Final Fantasy games, when Chemists use items their effects are more potent. Another helpful ability is Chemists can use an item like a potion without consuming it. The downside is this skill has a long cooldown period, but sounds like this skill will be helpful once you have some elixirs. Chemists are designed to be support characters, but can also act as long range fighters when equipped with a gun.
Final Fantasy Explorers comes out on December 18 for Nintendo 3DS in Japan.
