  • Those Vita TV sales are terrible
    *looks at X-BOX1 sales*

    • Nothing can truly beat an XBox’s performance in Japan.

      • sd28

        whats an ouya ?

    • Göran Isacson

      724 boxes sold.

This is almost enough to move a grown man to tears.

    • subsamuel01

The fact that the Xbox One is selling at all in the region is surprising.

  • DesmaX

Damn, the PS4 sold a lot this week.

    What happened?

    • Guest

I think Grand Theft Auto V might have something to do with it.

    • Everyone and their mother is a Dragon Quest fan in Japan, they probably all(or at least the majority) got the Metal Slime edition.

      • DesmaX

Kinda amazing on how a PS4 Special Edition without the actual game managed to sell.

Can’t even imagine how much DQ Heroes would end up selling when it’s released

        • I’m curious myself since it’s different from the usual DQ. But if One Piece Musou was able to sell 1+ million copies DQ should do its fair share too relative to the userbase on the PS4.

          • subsamuel01

I’m sure the game will help move a lot of PS4s.

      • ishyg

I was tempted to order the slime edition (because I lost the 20th anniversary lottery T_T), but I don’t have money. It just looks better than the black one, IMO.

  • Elpizo

Phantasy star Nova and Shining Resonance up there. That’s cool.

Can we have Yokai Watch already?

    • Renaldi Saputra

Next year YW will be localized

  • Herok♞

Its interesting to see that people aren’t picking up many games with their PS4s since only game that being GTA V charted this week

    • CozyAndWarm

Other than western “triple-A” games, what else is even there to get for it?

  • British_Otaku

Unsurprising numbers for the most part with Derby Stallion Gold taking a notable drop due to issues (I haven’t read into them, but 3.5 scores on the eShop are fairly reliable as a hint).

Attack on Titan hanging on pretty well despite it being downloadable (I start playing it tomorrow). Bandai Namco is still an enigma to me with how it can afford to release licensed games, even on the PS3 with numbers like Hajime no Ippo but they’ll be alright.

    • I think Namco occasionally likes to try out things, just to see if they’ll stick. Hajime no Ippo, the Accel World games on PSP/PS3 and so on seem to be their version of experimenting to see what’s still popular and what isn’t. As the years go by, they’ll need to replace their existing licenses with new ones, so I’m guessing they’re trying to prepare for that inevitability.

      • British_Otaku

To date, Bandai’s biggest hits seem to be super long running shows/franchises (which also happened to get some foothold outside Japan through some fortune).

Accel World seemed fairly reasonable if they were happy with a PSP game’s sales (as I understand it, the PSP was the lead SKU though the PS3 sold slightly more) after the anime ended, Hajime no Ippo unless I didn’t hear about a movie or something seems like an odd project.

Even more so with Sakigake! Otokojuku! on the PS3 which Ahtma mentioned.

    • Ahtma

Bamco’s really strange. This year saw the release of that PS3 Sakigake!! Otokojuku game from them as well, which as an Otokojuku fan I didn’t see coming at all.

      • British_Otaku

That is probably the most extreme case of all, iirc, it didn’t get an anime or competent adaptation at all. I’m not a Otokojuku fan yet, but I was interested in the game if only because of the premise of the manga and the cool limited edition figure…

Hope I can find a cheap reseller nowadays… Seems the prices aren’t horrible. Likewise, it is pretty easy to find Accel World which Ishaan mentioned, I guess Bamco didn’t measure their stock correcting for these smaller releases.

Very strange considering how safe they play it on the 3DS and mobile platforms most of the time.

        • Ahtma

Otokojuku did get an anime, but it was only 36 episodes long. It also got a movie in 1986, and a live action film in 2011, iirc. Otokojuku has sold well enough to be considered a successful Shonen Jump series, but its lack of a full adaptation leaves it heavily obscured.

          • British_Otaku

Yep. I first noticed it through Jump Ultimate Stars and J Stars Victory Vs and was sort of surprised that something so audacious and 80s didn’t have something proper.

Perhaps, it’ll get lucky like how Kisejuu/Parasyte did recently.

          • Ahtma

There has been /somewhat/ of a limited adaptation of it for Pachinko slots in Japan. /watch?v=-49jh7wzl-8

            I’d watch it.

  • Shippoyasha

    Aikatsu pulling in work! YES.

  • Adrian Duran

why can’t the Japanese invade the West?

that might have came out wrong

    • MinakoArisato

You might suffer many culture shocks then^^

    • LMAO

  • PowerSerg

Shining Resonance actually did pretty well, maybe a western release sega?

    • AkuLord3

      Not how it works…

      • PowerSerg

Nah, a game sells well, then they gauge western intrest with a system that has no real logical base, then if it fits the random things they are looking for a westen game that week they will start working on localization.

        • Renaldi Saputra

          Sega? Localize shining? They won’t

Even they don’t localize any JRPG anymore

  • Ethan_Twain

Maybe double check that chart, unless I’m having a brain fart there’s an issue with how Shining Resonance and the two Smash Bros games are ordered.

In other news, Animal Crossing New Leaf is back! It will never die!!

  • subsamuel01

Wow PS4 sales went up big time in Japan, great to see home consoles selling well.

    • J_Joestar

well a DQ themed console came out, and you know Japan and their DQ.

  • Göran Isacson

So Yokai Watch demolishes all yet again. Nobody is surprised, so let’s turn to other games- anyone out there who can give some context as to whether Shining Resonance and Assassin’s Creed Rogue’s sales are any good? I’ve a feeling that SR is probably selling good numbers for the budget, but Rogue… I know it’s not the “main” game, so maybe it’s sales should be considered in relation to stuff like AC Liberation instead of AC Unity. Though speaking of that- how much has AC Unity sold so far? It fell off the the list after the first week, didn’t it?

    • it’s a shining game so the answer for that is “no”

      • Slayven19

How so, how much do they usually sell?

  • mojack411

Im gonna shake it up a bit and instead of asking for Yokai Watch localization ask for something else. Will SEGA start localizing again and give us Shining Resonance hmmm?

    • Renaldi Saputra

Sega? Localize shining? The franchise was hit and miss in US and we didn’t got any PSP games from it since around 2008

      Only sony can help localize

    • Zazon Zenzy

The chance for that is slim… you know the gist: Animu gewrls suck, lol!

And we’re talking about SEGA US that has been stalling PSO2 US for almost 2 years.

  • Thatguy

There is an error in SSB for WiiU sales.

    Last week 227527, this week 33151. Total – 306533.

Also, placed higher than Shining Resonance.

On-topic: Lack of Guilty Gear Xrd is depressing.

  • Whoops. I had the Smash U number entered in the wrong space. Thanks for pointing it out, everyone. The chart should make more sense now.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Shining Resonance is great. I”m glad it didn’t bomb.
Can’t wait until finals are over so I can go hard on it.

  • SpeeeeedowaGOOONnnn

    Xrd, where are thou?

    • Göran Isacson

Yeah, seems like it already slipped out of the charts. Much sorrow, since last week I think it only sold like 40K and… I dunno if those were the numbers they intended.

  • Yan Zhao

Shining Resonance did pretty good. Really hope SOMEONE offers Sega to publish and localize for the west :(

  • Aristides

Way to go PS4! :P Bigger install base = more JRPGs in the future w00t!

  • wez

Come on Xbox one! you can do it! everyone loves an underdog!
