Tokyo Xanadu Is A Falcom Action RPG Set In Modern Times

By Spencer . December 17, 2014 . 11:49pm

Falcom, makers of the Ys series and The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, usually set their games in fantasy worlds. Tokyo Xanadu blends Falcom’s action RPG knowhow with a modern day setting.

Tokyo Xanadu takes place in the Morimiya City, a suburb of Tokyo, where high school students Koh and Asuka enter the world of Xanadu.

Tokyo Xanadu will be released in early 2015. Falcom has not said what platform(s) the game will be released on.

    Woo more Falcom games!

  • wez

    yay

  • firstarioch

    This has my interest.

  • Nicholas Perry

If it’s anywhere near as good as the old Xanadu and Xanadu next. hnnnnggg

  • Go2hell66

im just going to assume this isn’t on home consoles

    • dahuuuundge

I just hope it’s on any console but smartphones or browser game.

    • BrokenSkullZero

Falcom use to be a fairly PC centric developer and eventually became geared towards Sony Handhelds, With their last 2 recent games being the first self developed games to a Home console (The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki I & II)

Their new Ys game is Vita & Ps4, I’ll be very surprised if they go mobile or browser.

      • ogopogo

It does say they’re trying to tackle a new “challenge” with this title. Consider Falcom been largely absent from the mobile and browser game market, I wouldn’t rule it out completely. That said, while I LOVE Xanadu Next as well, I hope this doesn’t delay the next Kiseki title by another year…

  • JustThisOne

Ooooh. I like modern day RPGs.

  • Raze

    Modern setting Xanadu?
Or later maybe just warp to the other world or something?

    I kinda like Xanadu Next…
    But its slower than Ys…
    That’s not bad thing tho…

  • Adrian Duran

Named after one of the best, and one of the first, Japanese RPGs

  • Souffrir

My only question is whether we get to bump enemies to death.

  • Haganeren

I hope it’s as cool as Xanadu Next ! If we see it in English in the ten next years that is…

  • Woot Woot

    OMG Xanadu next sequel. HYPE

  • Joseph Santee

Holy crap, a Xanadu sequel. THAT was unexpected. :D

  • Whoa Xanadu is back! Heard good things about NEXT.

  • Not too keen on the school setting but here’s hoping they can deliver on gameplay at least

    • pekikuubik

What school setting? If that image is any indication, I doubt there’s much left of any school the main characters may have gone to.

    • Izzeltrioum

If something is known about Falcom, it’s the strong emphasis they put to gameplay, story, characters and OST. This isn’t SE nor Atlus (I like the Negotiating system though!), so rest assured regarding gameplay.

      • Shane Guidaboni

You’re calling out Atlus for bad gameplay? Good luck to you.

      • Hexodious

It must be fun to live in ignorance.

  • Izzeltrioum

10/10 will buy by just reading the title.

Though I prefer Medieval/Fantasy settings over Modern Urban Japan.

  • Pandakids09 .

Don’t get many modern day RPGs, cant to see some gameplay

  • MrAptronym

The art looks neat, and I am a big falcom fan. I never played the original and know next to nothing about it though. Anyway, I hope its on something I own and gets a translation. Consider me interested.

  • Ryudo9

Doe this mean Olivia Newton John can finally appear in the series? Modern times baby!

  • Aristides

ZOMG! ZOMG! A new Xanadu game ;_; I’m gonna cry. I loved the PC-88 original, I can’t believe they’re resurrecting the series, we haven’t gotten once since Next. The pioneer of the action RPG and the game that made Falcom a household name has returned!!!

  • chroma816

Interested, but I’ll wait for more info.

  • I hope this is coming to the ps4

  • dispedia

sounds good ! hopefully coming to ps4 <3 aww yeah

  • KoRLumen

I absolutely love urban fantasy settings. Cannot wait.
