Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed Heads To The West In Spring 2015

By Spencer . December 19, 2014 . 12:15pm

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed takes characters from the Neptunia series and puts them in a hack and slash game. In addition to Neptune and the other CPUs, Hyperdimension Neptunia U introduces two new characters based on Japanese magazines, Dengeki PlayStation and Famitsu.

Why are the CPUs and CPU Candidates beating up on Dogoos in this game? With no threat from Arfoire Gamindustri is peaceful, but boring until a mysterious proposition comes up.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed is slated for release in North America and Europe in spring 2015. The game will be released in stores and digitally on PlayStation Network. Players will be able to select either English and Japanese voiceovers.

    • magicalfollower

      Damn right.
I hope they make a proper announcement next year.

      • Satoshi Ookami

        They will.
They will announce Rebirth 3 for PC and nothing will happen :P

  • CDan

Nice, I was about to import it.
“*This image may not reflect the final product.”
    Lets hope it does.

  • Astraea’s Eyebrow

We need more anime musou games!

  • notentirelythere

Oof, that gameplay video is prettyyyyy… yowch. Looks less involving than Musou on easy and has really weird, non-impactful sound design. Nothing’s that visually impressive, either; those moves and effects aren’t stretching the imagination much, are they?
I was hoping this is where I could ENTER HYPERDIMENSION NEPTUNIA cuz the gijinka designs are just… so cuuuute. SOME DAY…

  • Slash the stampede

if anyone really want to know more about the game go look at some overviews on youtube some even tell you about the strength and weakness of the characters ( like how quickly their gauges fill I fast they are ect)

personally I lost interest in the game mostly because kill 2000 enemies or kill x amount of enemies til boss spawns looks tedious :/

but I guess as long you are using your fav character its going to be awhile before you get bored lol
(also ranged characters are the strongest characters in this game)

My PSV is tingling in anticipation for next year~.

  • Maksim Tsirulnik

I’m a little hesitant about this game.

I was very disappointed by “Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus” after playing it and, apparently, “Nep U” is basically just a watered down version of that game.

I talked to people who have played both on what some of the differences were and, while there were a couple, they were relatively minor. Overall, “Nep U” has a lot less content to change things up a bit. While the gameplay looks just fine to me, so did the gameplay in “SK:SV”. It’s hard to really tell unless you get the chance to actually experience it, and so far, it being similar to “SK:SV” is not a good thing for me.

Butthere are some other changes so I’m really hoping those, and the fact that I’m a fan of the series, is enough for me to like the game in the end. I mean, I was able to like “PP”, which alone seems to be a rarity, so hopefully this has something that can do the same.

    • WhyWai

Why? Shinovi versus is more fun than I expected, which really surprised me. It’s better than most warrior games that i played. Hence I am really looking forward to this one.

      • Maksim Tsirulnik

Cause I didn’t enjoy “Shinovi” all that much? I thought that was clear, my bad.

I just didn’t really like the combat all that much, the characterization (aside from some moments) to be generally awful, the story to be all over the place, and many of the mechanics to be barebones or just not well designed. But that’s just me. Plenty of other people seem to enjoy the game, such as yourself, just fine.

        • DizzyGear

SK:SV really shines when fighting the other shinobi girls one on one on a high difficulty setting like the final fight between Asuka and Homura.
Sadly these moments are rare since too many missions insist on forcing you to fight hordes of minions that pose no threat at all which gets old REALLY fast.

          • Maksim Tsirulnik

Actually, I’d argue against that. While a high level opponent is fine, I found that final fight between Asuka and Homura to be more tedious than actually challenging, but that’s mostly due to the power armor they get from having level 5 flash. The final battles of each school on Hard difficulty also suffer from a similar situation.

But really, a lot of the mechanics, regardless of whether you are facing against mobs or are doing a 1v1, just fall flat for me.

I’m just really hoping “Estival” fares better even though I’m a bit skeptical. At least for now, it looks far more polished in just about every single way.

So happy about this love HDN

  • Harry Potter

    im a wizard

  • Zoozbuh

Gonna just put this out there… from that video, this game looks… pretty damn boring and repetitive. I may be wrong though. I love the series and have supported every release so far, but it doesn’t look like something that’s fun to play. Looking forward to the new Rebirth game waaay more.

    • Napalnman1231

Did you tried at least Senran Kagura or Dynasty/Samurai Warriors?

      • jinkusiraga

The lack of sound bits from hitting enemies seems to make the game seem duller than it could be.
Honestly, I feel like I would have more fun playing SK or DW than playing this for that fact alone. It wouldn’t feel quite as satisfying to attack in general, I think.

        • Doctor Nebula

Yeah I noticed that too, there’s no sounds for the enemies at all which is pretty odd.

  • Yagami Mao

    gotta wait >.<

  • John Hayabusa

I wish we have more Nep games like this. This looks good and fun.

From someone who has played this game, it’s more or less everything you’d want it to be. A fun action game that feels like a Neptune game.

Awesome that they’re actively localizing CH stuff! :)

  • tturtlejosh

any word on a limited edition?

Other localization companies should learn =D

    • Princess_Eevee9

Yeah they should but they’re not the best when it comes to localizing. Still a great company though.

  • Tinye

This game looks great! I can’t wait to get it! love arpgs

  • Joy Crabtank

Hiya guys, I usually don’t post on here, but I have to give a warning. I imported this game when it came out overseas a few months ago. I completed it 100%, not because I really enjoyed it, but so I could be fully qualified in… stating my opinion on this game just in case, you know, it ever releases in America/Europe.
I’ll try to sum up my thoughts. Hyperdimension Neptunia U was a train wreck.
The combat is fun only for a few hours, the CONSTANT reuse of assets is insanely lazy (there are no new environments), the dull, unsatisfying sound effects, the clothes rip system, while it’s something that kept Senran Kagura interesting, is now extremely rare, and the Lily Rank system…
You know, let me talk about that.
Increasing the lily ranks between all characters doesn’t sound too hard, but it is easily the most time-consuming part of the game. They give you no combat incentive for maxing them. So those 48 hours I put into doing it? Basically pointless. The only thing I got for doing it was the last trophy I needed to get a platinum trophy.
The game is just poorly designed. It asks of you the time it takes to complete a normal HDN game but forgets to add in the stuff that made completing those games fun, so you end up mashing buttons at enemies that die in just a single hit for literally days worth of time for absolutely nothing. It felt like work.
So please consider this, if you are a Nepnep fan, and you’re looking for a short, HDN-related story mode and that’s it, I think that you’ll enjoy this. The cutscenes definitely do have that charm the series is known for, and the designs for the two new characters are actually pretty good; however, if you are looking for a fun ole grindfest like the mainline series, prepare to be really disappointed.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, but I felt it needed to be said.
    (sneaks back into the shadows)

  • soulz

Wait……..Costume break?! So there’s gonna be some Senran Kagura “Mechanics”?

  • wahyudil

I almost think the U in the title mean Wii U

  • Kornelious

Hell yeah! This is the one I’ve been waiting for! Out of all the Vita Hyperdimensions, I’m definitely most excited for this one, finally being able to control the goddesses on a new action-packed field :D

!F really are on a roll lately, Localizing this, Hyperdevotion Noire, Rebirth 2, and Omega Quintet all by this Summer! Plus they are setting up an online store next month for easier purchases! (Because we all know what happened when they tried to sell through Amazon X( )

I just hope they aren’t rushing the localizations….I hate it when we get the 1/3 of a dub….. But as long as we’re getting the games at all, I’m fine….. Looks like quarter 1 of 2015 is gonna be a Nep-Nep fueled season :D

  • LazuliteLiamz

Some of you guys probably had already read some warnings regarding this game, I’d just like to add my own input as well. By no means I’m trying to discourage anyone from buying this game.
I’m a fan of HDN series, I owned and played all the PS3 version in english and bought and played a ton out of the vita version in japanese. For the vita versions, I even double dipped. Digital for day one while waiting for my Limited Edition Famitsu DX packs. I also owned PP in LE and even the spin-off Noire game, also in LE Famitsu DX pack, cause Noire! xD

Although I’m not a great fan of tactic games, since I suck at them, and I love musou games a lot, but I think I had more fun playing the tactic spin-off game rather than Neptunia U >_<
At first, I am too, very excited. Got this on day one with digital.
It was fun at first, but it get really boring really fast.
If you guys think I'm talking about SK:SV or DW or WO series boring, I'm not.
In Shinovi Versus, there's quite a few customization. You also unlock more combos as you level up. But in Neptunia U, you unlock all immediately at level 1. I can't remember exactly whether they give you anything for levelling up, but I have Noire and Uni at 99 and I don't remember getting anything exciting besides the trophy :(
Neptunia U also have lesser roster than other similar genre games.
Assets are also re-used, but that doesn't really bother me after so many HDN games xD
Movement feels a bit floaty IMO, but it feels just nice when you're transformed.
As a fan of HDN series, I'm really happy that I could finally play the character in one of my favorite genre, I did not regret my purchase, but I think most people in the west might regret it if this game is sold at full standard vita game price.

But if you like the series, please don't be discouraged to purchase it. Get it to support the company and the possibility of future games localization xD
My suggestions are, just don't get too over-hyped for it. People tends to get disappointed when their expectations are way too high compared to what they get, so keep that expectations at moderate level :)
And if its available, try to get the limited edition.
If I remember correctly, PP's LE was very affordable, although really limited.
That kind of LE makes it more worth it for the purchase, which is also the reason why I purchase PP again in english :)

  • Me: *looks at wallet* RIP, kid.
    Trini’s wallet: *cries* b-but why?
Me: cuz the waifus are calling, kid. the waifus.
