Sony’s Big Freedom Wars Announcement Wasn’t That Big At All

While many were expecting an upgraded version or even a sequel to Freedom Wars from the “Sinners Festival” that took place earlier today, Sony’s big reveal ended up being something far less grand.

According to a report by Hachima, the announcement that was made at this weekend’s Freedom Wars event at 6:00 pm was actually to announce the winners of the prize lottery for those that attended the event.

While a lot of fans from Japan also expected to hear about a new game, Dengeki reports that the Freedom Wars developers did share that they’re currently preparing a new project that involves the  “Propaganda Idols”. Producer Junichi Yoshizawa  didn’t reveal much about the new project, but did mention the keyword of “5” for it, which has something to do with five new tracks, and hinted as the possibility of new Idols.

For those of you who’ve played Freedom Wars, but have yet to actually see the Propaganda Girls, they were actually created as part of the advertisement for the game, and they’re not actually in the game… except for the voice actors who voiced other characters.

Perhaps this new project of Yoshizawa’s will put them in the game as part of a new event, or even as new characters you can party with or use as your Accessory.

Does this game has a good single player mode?

    • subsamuel01

Yea, the game gives you bots anyways if you decide to play on your own.

    • HarakiriKami

      No

    • Sayla Mass

they give u stupid ai bots u should play it online after code 7

  • Raymond Luong

What a dick move. Only japan cares about idols

    • HarakiriKami

      PFTAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • Sony why u do this why must u tease with our hearts like this

  • Dystopiq

What’s with the Japanese and troll announcements. As if it wasn’t bad enough that Kojima got us good for Christmas.

  • Mind0105A

    How disappointing…

  • That’s why news about news isn’t really news.

  • DragKudo

    Wow

  • qchto

totally off-topic but… are they dacing Hare Hare Yukai?

  • Envatta

Looks like Sony is learning at Square’s school of announcements.

    • MinakoArisato

      You made my day xD

    • CurryField

They need to go bigger if they ever want to top Square Enix in terms of announcements and announcements of announcements.

      • Envatta

        Needs more pointlessly hyped countdowns.

        • Cosmos Black

I’m feeling a countdown for the announcement of a countdown to a new announcement.

      • Pedro Furtado

We can’t say for sure if Sony will top Square Enix or not at the present moment, but we’re looking forward for future announcements on this matter. Please be excited.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Freedom Wars card F2P mobile game next~?

      • Envatta

Complete with microtransactions where you don’t know which character you’re buying, of course. ~

  • Destiny13777

I would hope if they do make a sequel they work on story progression. I’m on code 5 and I know your supposed to be a prisoner but it’s unmotivating to play when all you do is go here to talk to someone, go there and talk to someone else.

    • Sayla Mass

it will be good after u past code 7

  • BizarreJelly

They’re not even in the game…?

    *tumbleweed*

    • Yeah! I thought they were already in game and I was waiting for a dlc thinking that japan had already got them.

  • Spirit Macardi

This is the current gaming industry in a nutshell: Huge possibilities inevitably resulting in crushing disappointment.

    • BlackC#Bro

Huge possibilities? The game was released 2 months ago for us, I would of been pissed if it was a G version.

      • Yeah for us, by the time a new game was made, we have a good year on it.

  • Dark Lord Ash

And on that day, much discontent was forming towards the patiopticon company that was Sony from multiple parts of the world. All the while, a dark and menacing cloud started forming over the company and all that could be heard after that was the roar of a will’o engine on full blast……..There were no survivors after what came with the searing flames of retribution.

    True story

    • Sayla Mass

lol its end of the world they got the fvking casket

  • Warboss Aohd

oh joy, more idols, as if they have over-saturated Japanese gaming and anime enough already.

  • raitouniverse

    Womp womp.

  • Zack

Yeah… This is why I wasn’t remotely expecting anything – I’m not disappointed at all!

    • Alex Shadov

I can see tears seeping from your eyes… you are not fooling anyone…

  • JohnNiles

Yep, a letdown. Those 5 tracks had better be good enough to knock 1 Million Year Sentence of Love outta my battle music selection.

  • MinakoArisato

I would laugh right now if it wasn’t so… sad.
Like, I was REALLY looking forward to Freedom Wars when it was localized, but again, there are so many issues with that game that I personally just keep on playing Soul Sacrifice.

When I noticed said “BIG EVENT!!” I thought, oh, maybe they have something GOOD on their sleeves, like, something that would motivate me to play the game (A SWIMSUIT DOESN’T CUT IT!), but well… I was sceptical all along, so I am not surprised.

    • lol sadly almost every game of this genre just kind of blows Freedom Wars out of the water. Only game I can say I KIND of preferred Freedom Wars over was Ragnarok Odyssey. It’s like Monster Hunter, God Eater, Soul Sacrifice, Phantasy Star Nova, and pretty much every other game of the genre both on the Vita and not are much more polished and have much more content and replayability.

      • MinakoArisato

Soul Sacrifice has at least a working game-design, a lot of original and well thought story and the combat works, too.

Ragnarok odyssey was kinda strange to me, like, not so many enemies and then even a handful of different weapons in one weapon type. That kinda destroyed it for me.

        • Pedro Furtado

What destroyed Ragnarok Odyssey for me was the “kill 10 creeps” quest which have forced battles inside of them in which you have to, guess what, kill creeps, most of the time they aren’t even the actual creeps of the mission.

          • MinakoArisato

And when these creeps gang up on you, you get hit-stun-locked until your dry! xDD

          • MinakoArisato

And when these creeps gang up on you, you get hit-stun-locked until your dry! xDD

      • Sayla Mass

FW looks like lost planet too me which is good because i love that game

        • Gameplay-wise FW is fun, it’s just the game’s not that polished compared to other games of it’s genre and it has little to no actual content.

  • lolcatz6657
  • Did people in japan complained too? at least to know.

  • persona_yuji

Talk about a knee in the gut…

  • HarakiriKami

Why would freedom wars of all things get a sequel?

    • persona_yuji

Because the game ends in a Halo 2 ending tier kinda thing, so yeah… major cliffhanger, people want to see what happens next.

      • Alex Shadov

Not really, people just want payback from On High… and more wishes.

      • HarakiriKami

They can go sit with the people waiting for gravity rush 2 then

        • persona_yuji

          I’m still waiting… that damn teaser…

    • MinakoArisato

Yeah, thats what I ask myself too!

    • Michael Kelehan

Because it’s a fun game that sold pretty well?

      • HarakiriKami

Have you seen Sony Japan’s studio schedule recently? I dont think you have

  • James Reilly

    So….FW rhythm game spin-off then?

  • JustThisOne

I don’t know why people were expecting so much from an MMO event… But oh well, a tease is a tease.

  • Frimelda

I would have expected a Uwe or Mattias Nendoroid really.

Oh well, Beatrice Nendo is around the corner! :D

  • Rouge

Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
    Okay.jpg

    • triablos

      I laughed

  • Blazingsonic

Uh huh…… *Has Natilia giver Sony a 1,000,000,000,000,000 year sentence for getting our hopes up.

  • Blazingsonic

Uh huh…… *Has Natilia giver Sony a 1,000,000,000,000,000 year sentence for getting our hopes up.

  • Oh…. Well that’s disappointing…. I was really hoping for a new Freedom Wars or a G version that expands on the story, but it’s just more about those “popular” propaganda idols…. (sigh) -_-

  • VOCALOID2
  • I am kind of glad though… I mean, I just bought the game a month ago, and hearing about a re-release or sequel would have kind of ticked me off (even though I’d probably get the new game anyways…).

  • Sayla Mass

what the shaz man Sony is an idiot this is they’re chance to sell the system then they give us rhytm shit this should be better than hatsune miku or no buy

  • Well that was exciting

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

I can’t help but think of the terms “blueball” at the thought of making an event, raising some hype just for…this~.

  • Armageddon

I was hoping to be wrong in my previous statement, but nothing could have prepared me for this.

  • Chido55

Me and my team are struggling for reason as to continue playing the game. We had crafted every single weapon on LB class, tried every Retribution the game had to offer. The passion are dwindling and we heard of this announcement, hoping something new would come out and we can enjoy it again.

Then this happened. It was sorely disappointing, I must say. The reason to keep on playing wasn’t there anymore. At least SSD keep us fresh every 2 weeks for the very least. This so called big title of Sony, and they don’t give a proper shit. smh

  • Rhafty

lmao glad I didn’t have my expectations high XD

what if they make a idol game o.O?

  • PreyMantis

To be fair, people just hyped the announcement like something big was really going on. Disappointing, yes, but it’s hardly Sony’s fault people hyped it up than what it turned out to be.

    • Definitely true! It’s not like we won’t see additional content in the future or anything. So all is good. IMO.

  • 9breaker

I was sorta expecting the big announcement to turn out like this but you know people probably made a big deal about it before knowing what it was.

  • Looks like the only big announcement that you will be 100% likely to be hyped about and not get disappointed after are Nintendo Direct~ well from my book that is~
