Have A Look At Super Mario Sunshine, Pikmin 2 Running At 60 FPS

With some new hacks in the Dolphin emulator, it’s possible to play Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin 2 at 60 frames per second, rather than 30 frames-per-second they ran at on the GameCube.

The video above shows Super Mario Sunshine running at the higher frame rate. However, it may make the hack look better than it might actually be. Sometimes, running Sunshine at 60 FPS causes the audio to speed up uncontrollably. That said, one version of the hack does, apparently, let you play the game all the way through.

And if you want to go even more ridiculous: “There is also a 120 FPS hack for those with higher framerate monitors, but it does begin to break stuff at that point,” it reads in the video’s description.

The hacks also work with the NTSC version of Pikmin 2 as the video above demonstrates. It, too, can be a little unstable as it incurs some console lag if things get too hectic on screen.

“If you’re starting a new game, you will have to mash A on a black screen when the opening cutscene gets confused. Things return normal once gameplay begins,” it says in the video’s description. So, yeah, it’s not perfect, but the part that matters does run at 60 FPS.

Other games such as Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, Pikmin 1, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl are also compatible with this hack.
