With a name like RPG Maker Fes, you expect most of the games people are making with the application to be turn-based RPGs. And that is true! There are plenty of those on the server. But, there are also an array of more unusual games. These are titles that are complete, may have multiple endings, and have gameplay that might not be exactly what you would expect. Today, we’re going to look at three of these games. All three of these can be played both with the full game or free player.

Earth’s Final Hour DX

A game from A. Crossland, Earth’s Final Hour DX is quite an unusual and unexpected find for many reasons. First, this is a timed game. Your character is returning to Earth to save some things from it before the planet is destroyed and has one hour to do so. This means you are exploring an abandoned city, picking up parts to repair the ship and grab mementos. The battle system is unique, in that you face tons of Humaniacs and need to have enough ammo to automatically shoot them, or else you will die.

This version of the game has nine endings, so make sure you grab the one with the DX. The other only has eight. What I like is how easy it is to play and get through Earth’s Final Hour DX. It only takes an hour, so you could space it out and spend a week earning every ending.

Apartment 412

This game by Aleph is one that tests you. It is a thriller, where you find yourself trapped in an apartment. How do you get out? By solving various puzzles and riddles! It is interesting, as you are in a very limited space. Yet, there are always things to see and do, and you are constantly learning. There were even a few moments where I was stumped.

I think what I liked most is the similarity to escape rooms. I really love playing games in the Zero Escape series and Professor Layton titles, and Apartment 412 captures the feel of both games with its riddles and element of danger. I especially liked how effective it was, given it used the base RPG Maker Fes materials.

Code Evac

Of the three games I’m recommending here today, X’s Code Evac is the most traditional. But, don’t take that to mean this is an ordinary JRPG. It is far from it. Instead, it is a survival game where you are trying to maintain a battlefield and survive zombies. This means you need to implement different defensive tools in the field, choose your loadout, and do your best to stay alive.

What I like about Code Evac is how much replayability is present. I’m not just talking about the nine endings you can earn. Rather, from the very beginning, you are trying to survive this experiment. You choose your initial armor buff, determining if speed or health is more important to you. You choose a weapon. Then, you have to perform various actions like activating a status scanner, turning on a sentry, and getting a code for a bomb shelter.

As a final recommendation, I suggest anyone with RPG Maker Fes considering DLC purchases grab Sporky’s DLC Preview. This is exactly what it sounds like. The DLC is set up in rooms, so you can browse and see which packs you may want to buy for your projects.

RPG Maker Fes and the free player are both available for the Nintendo 3DS.
