Gungrave G.O.R.E. Is What Gungrave VR Is Really Leading Up To

Gungrave VR is coming out in 2018, but developers JUN PD, Kay Kim, and KT_K spoke with Famitsu this week, speaking about the VR game, and what lies ahead for the gun-toting series. Here are the highlights:

Famitsu: Please tell us what the story of this game is about.

JUN, development chief: “This game is a prequel story for Gungrave G.O.R.E, a PlayStation 4 game that is in development. At the end of Gungrave Overdose, Grave finally achieved peace and went back to sleep, but as time goes on, Seed starts to spread across town again. Mika finds out about this, and hesitatingly wakes up Grave, and together they throw themselves into the heat of battle again.”

Famitsu: What did you do to refine Grave’s character design?

KT_K, art director: “On his key visuals, we designed him in a way that is familiar to fans of the series. Using the advanced techniques available today, we refined his design to be more stylish without destroying what makes him recognizable to people who have played his games. We used more detailed, high quality presentation to make his model with more realistic textures.”

Famitsu: Gungrave G.O.R.E. is already in development, but can you tell us about how big the scale of this new saga will be?

Kay Kim, business director: “The new Gungrave will start from Gungrave VR and continue in Gungrave G.O.R.E. It is hard to express what the overall scale of the story is at the present moment, but as we want Gungrave G.O.R.E. to have an even bigger scale and higher quality than Gungrave VR, it is advancing development on the latest Unreal Engine. We want it to be a game that doesn’t lose to higher level games, but we think what is most important is ‘how much it will resonate with existing fans’. We will continue to work hard to express the world of Gungrave.”

Gungrave G.O.R.E. is in development for PlayStation 4.
