The Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for 2D fighting game Them’s Fightin’ Herds is now up. Developer Mane6 is hoping to raise $436,000 in order to pay for its team to work on the game’s development full-time for 18 months.

With the campaign under way there is now more information about how the game will play, its story, as well as the playable characters.

For starters, it takes place in the lands of Fœnum – a peaceful realm where all known predators have been banished to a prison realm. But, recently, the predators have started making their way back. So it’s up to the cute animals of Fœnum to seal the portal to the prison realm with an enchanted key.

Each nation has sent its most powerful and brave warrior to fight the others to get hold of this key. These are known as the “Key Seekers.” But to get their hooves or paws on the key and become the “Key Keeper” they first need to fight each other to decide who is most worthy of the role.

There are several species of animal in Fœnum: Cattlekind, Deerfolk, Alpake, Unicorn, Sheepkin, and a select few protective Sheep Dogs. You’ll be able to play through the game as each of these species. There’s a four button fighting system, with light, medium, and heavy attacks, as well as a unique magical power for each species.

Lastly, there will be a visual lobby in Them’s Fightin’ Herds, which is an online environment you explore from a top-down perspective. You’ll be able to challenge other players to fights as well as join a ring of spectators to watch fights, as well as customize your animal avatar.
