With the help of a PlayStation 3 you can explore Ginza. Toro, Sony’s cat mascot, acts as a guide in a virtual 3D walkthrough of one of Tokyo’s prime shopping districts. He can point out department stores such as Matsuya and Wako. The tour kicks off at the Sony Building, which hosts the special software. Sony is running the free guide service as a trial from February 17 to March 31.
Since the Ginza tour is only available in Japan, specifically in Ginza, few people will get their hands on this. However, it would be neat if Sony integrated their virtual tour service into PlayStation Home. Instead of walking around lounges users could “visit” real places around the world, and, perhaps, with the help of canned translated phrases communicate with the locals.
