Pokemon A Ripple in Time

A Ripple in Time Pokemon Animated Short Features Time-Traveling Celebi

The Pokemon Company is collaborating with artist Daniel Arsham to host a series of exhibitions in Tokyo this year. The exhibition also comes with the new “A Ripple in Time” animated short, which shows Celebi transporting Ash and Pikachu into the far future. The full version of the animated short will appear at one of the exhibition locations in Tokyo starting February 12, 2022. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The exhibition’s core concept revolves around the fictional archaeology of Pokemon using materials like quartz crystal and bronze. Some locations will also feature bronze castings of Pokemon trading cards like Charizard and Blastoise, among others. Other locations will showcase sketches and “field research” of these crystallized Pokemon. Furthermore, the Nanzuka Underground exhibition will also sell merchandise such as crystal figures and plush.

The main attraction is the animated short, which Daniel Arsham produced in collaboration with 1997 Pokemon anime series director Kunihiko Yuyama. The animated short begins with Ash and Pikachu engaged in a battle with another trainer. When Pikachu’s thunderbolt almost strikes Celebi, the mythical Pokemon uses its time-traveling ability to transport Ash and Pikachu into the future.
