I saw a build of SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 and I thought there wouldn’t be much to report because it’s a compilation of Neo Geo ROMs. I 'm glad I was wrong about that. SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 rewards players with medals (read: achievements) after completing tasks in the arcade games. Each medal is linked to a specific reward. Beating a challenge in Metal Slug might unlock a song (there are full albums to unlock), concept art or a video showing a secret location in Magician Lord. There is a chunk of content to unlock and it’s geared towards SNK fans.
Specifically for the Wii version, waggling is out and the Classic Controller is in. There are no plans to implement any motion control for SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 like they did with Metal Slug Anthology. Since there aren’t any additions I’m puzzled why the Wii version is scheduled for Q4 2008 while the PS2/PSP releases are coming out in Q2 2008. Maybe “puzzled” is the wrong word because it seems like SNK is going to take advantage of Virtual Console sales over a few months and then release the Wii version. I’ll happily take the earlier, portable PSP version.
In case you didn’t catch the sixteen titles in SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 the list is past the break.
