Yesterday, Marvelous AQL announced a new download title for the PlayStation Vita—Assault Gunners, a mech shooter where you team up with three other players (or AI-controlled partners) to take on enemies and giant bosses. The game also has a versus multiplayer mode where you fight other players. Both the co-op and versus modes are only playable via local wireless.

Marvelous say that Assault Gunners has over 100 parts to customize your mechs with. These will be spread across the game’s 30+ missions, and will act as further augmentations for pre-existing models of mechs such as bipedal, quadruped and caterpillar types. You can also change your mech’s name and colour.

Single-player mode can be played in Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. In addition to the single-player mode is an Inferno survival mode, where you take on an unending stream of enemy forces.

Assault Gunners will be released on June 28th for 1,480 yen. You’ll be able to grab a demo off the Japanese PlayStation Network today. You can watch the announcement trailer for the game here.
