Bandai Namco announced that the company will go through major restructuring, according to its February 2021 financial report. This will include the merging of its gaming business with the toy and hobby business units. As a result, we will see the company pivot towards a "three unit system." The restructuring will officially take place on April 1, 2021.
Specifically, the Network Entertainment unit, which is part of the gaming business unit, will be part of this merge. Once the restructuring happens, these two units will be combined and be called the Entertainment Unit. The financial report stated that this merger is happening in response to the company wanting to aim for a new strategic direction. The company hopes that by integrating these units, it can continue to create products that will reflect the values of its consumers.
Additionally, Bandai Namco announced that Masaru Kawaguchi will be appointed president of the company. Kawaguchi currently serves as vice president of the company. Alongside the details regarding the restructuring, Bandai Namco shared the performance of the Network Entertainment, which had seen significant growth in profits.
This is the second game company restructuring we’ve heard about in 2021. Konami also announced some changes it will make.
