Before Eyepet, Sony Experimented With An Alien Monkey Game

Sony Computer Entertainment Cambridge, the studio behind the MediEvil series and the upcoming Killzone game for Vita, was working with the PlayStation Eye in 2005.

They came up with Simian, which had player interact with alien monkeys in an adventure game. A demo was made that let players interact with a simian using gestures and a limited amount of words.


Simians was canceled in pre-production, but the concept and tech led to the development of EyePet. Note the "simian-larities" in art design. Since Eyepet is geared towards a younger audience, the horrifying spider monster didn’t make the cut.
