Keep in mind that you can change the Vocation of your Pawn at any time, just like yourself! So if any of these Vocations aren’t jiving with your playstyle, you can always swap it up at any time. And as you experiment with more Vocations yourself, you may find yourself wanting to switch it up anyhow. You can read our suggestions below.

Mage

This is, without a doubt, one of the best Vocations for your Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2 — granted that you’re not playing a Mage yourself. The Mage is the only Vocation that is capable of healing without the use of the Churegon Scroll you will obtain later in the game. Additionally, the Mage can imbue the weapons of your party with elemental effects, provide light for the party, and, in later levels, help you restore much-needed stamina. They are an invaluable asset and will be essential to most players when fighting griffins, cyclopes, and other monstrous foes.

Fighter

The Fighter is a great Vocation for the early hours of the game, especially if you’re looking for a tank. I ended up making my Pawn a Fighter for the first few hours before I unlocked Warrior. But what makes this Vocation so great, outside of being a solid tank and directing the ire of your enemy in their direction, are the Augments. These allow for players to effectively assign their Pawns as tanks without sticking to the Fighter vocation. Which opens them up for the next Vocation I suggest players make their Pawn, especially if they are a caster or ranged Vocation.

Warrior

A powerhouse of a Vocation, the Warrior is an incredible hybrid DPS-tank. This is what I kept my personal Pawn the entire journey. Not only was my Pawn capable of holding the attention of dragons, griffins, and even more sinister enemies, but he was dealing a ton of damage. Warriors are great melee DPS, can wear heavy armor, and with the Augments from the Fighter, they can have an incredible amount of defense, a massive health pool, and provoke enemies. If you are playing a Mage, or have a summoned Pawn acting as your Mage, then you should absolutely make your Pawn a Warrior — if not recruit one through the Rift.

Sorcerer

Perhaps the most powerful Vocation for Pawns in the entire game, the Sorcerer is capable of flinging offensive spells that can bring even the mightiest dragon to its knees. However, what separates the Sorcerer and Mage is that the Sorcerer provides no beneficial magic to your party. Instead they focus on knocking over enemies, inflicting frost and burn, and can even summon meteors to strike down you foes. What the Sorcerer lacks in support they more than make up for in damage, and if you’re choosing to tank or provide support, consider making your Pawn a Sorcerer.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
