Beyond the Labyrinth is a 3D dungeon RPG, no real surprise there given the title. While all of the media released has a mysterious silver-haired girl in it, she is not the protagonist. The girl is a guide and follows the player as they explore the labyrinth.

The maze, shown from a first person perspective, is contained on the top screen. The bottom screen is used for a map. Save your cartography skills for Etrain Odyssey, Beyond the Labyrinth has an auto-mapping system and a landmark marker.

Konami is keeping the battle system, called the symbol encounter system, a secret for now. Enemies are visible and when you shift into combat you have four characters in your party. The battle plays out on the top screen and appears to have a turn order on the bottom.
