Blizzard Teases Doomfist’s Overwatch Debut

In an Overwatch blog update on July 4, 2017, Blizzard once again teased the community about Doomfist, a character with ties to Talon. In a “Times of Numbani” article, it has finally been confirmed that Akande Ogundimu, Doomfist, escaped from the Helix Security International’s maximum security installation.

The Overwatch lore post goes on to reveal that Reaper defeated over a dozen guards as he went in to free this latest wielder of the Doomfist gauntlet known as “the Successor.”  It notes that Ogundimu was a part of the Attack on Numbani incident that led to the destruction of the OR15 robots and theft of the Doomfist gauntlet.

There is another important takeaway from this Overwatch blog entry. Even though Doomfist’s escape and reclaiming of his gauntlet was the focus, there was a hint at other possible Helix Security International escapees. While no people were named, the story does say, “…sources have indicated that it is likely that there were further security breaches in addition to Ogundimu.”

Overwatch is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Actor Terry Crews has been campaigning for the role of Doomfist all year, which has led to him visiting Blizzard’s headquarters, meeting members of the Overwatch team like Lead Writer Michael Chu, and filming a mock audition video.
