This week’s North American Virtual Console update is apparently brought to us by the letter K, as in Konami. Bomberman ‘94 and Gradius are joining the Nintendo Wii U eShop and are published by Konami. They were also both games that were known for being notable TurboGrafx-16 games, in their prime.
Bomberman ‘94 is one of the Bomberman games with a story. In the single player campaign, Bomberman and his eight siblings are fighting against Bagular, who has invaded Bomber Planet. Your job is to restore the planet’s five guardian spirits by reassembling the destroyed Spirit Pictures before facing off against Bagular. Rooi, a rideable creature, makes its series debut in this installment. There is also standard multiplayer matches available. It is $6.99 on the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
Gradius is one of the most notable, early shoot’em ups. As Vic Viper, your goal is to destroy the core as you go through seven stages saving the planet Gradius from the Bacterion. Vic starts out somewhat slow and weak, but power ups allow him to get much stronger as he heads to end the war. It is $6.99 on the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
