One of the reasons Lord of Arcana lagged is the game had to switch into battle mode each time you ran into an enemy. Fights took place in arenas with invisible walls and no obstacles. Lord of Apocalypse, a sequel we’re still a bit surprised to see Square Enix greenlight, fixes this with seamless battle transitions.
Well, most of the time. It appears like battles against quest monsters still have red circled arenas, but these fights don’t have quick time events for finishing blows. Another substantial change is Lord of Apocalypse has customizable mercenaries for single player sessions.
Will any of these changes help Square Enix take a bite out of Monster Hunter or God Eater? Maybe since Lord of Apocalypse is the only hunting genre game in the PlayStation Vita launch lineup. A PSP version will also be released on December 17, but Square Enix have not shown footage from that yet.
