Could An Ultraviolent Animated Castlevania Film Come To Theaters?

This article is over 15 years old and may contain outdated information

Hearing the news about the Castlevania movie being in a standstill sparked my memory about another Castlevania movie. The film I’m thinking of is based on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and it’s animated. Originally, it was supposed to be a direct DVD release, but a few months ago the production blog claimed the project was “not dead” and some parties are interested as releasing it as an animated feature film.

Since Castlevania: The MOVIE is on “indefinite hold” Project 51’s Animated film could take its place. However, it might need to be edited before it appears in a movie theater near you. “A film where bastards explode when they get whipped, people get set on fire, and Alucard has no clothes on” is OK for adults, but all that goat “loving” scene might need to go. Wait a second… it’s been awhile since I played Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, but I don’t remember any “goat loving” in the NES game.

I guess I better replay it when it hits the Virtual Console. Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse was recently rated by the ESRB which means we could see it any day now.
