Ahead of The Ringed City, Dark Souls III’s latest expansion, Bandai Namco has released a launch trailer to prepare for the add-on. This two and a half minute video first sets the stage with a bit of lore and foreshadowing, as well as a glimpse at a familiar NPC, before showing off some areas in the city, enemies people will face, and equipment you might use.
Perhaps most interesting is that this Dark Souls III trailer begins with a reference to a storyline found in the Ashes of Ariandel add-on. People who went through that adventure may remember encountering a man named Gael. Gael is the one you need to speak to in the Cleansing Chapel to access the Ashes of Ariandel content. After freeing the Painting Woman, she refers to him as Uncle Gael and also sets herself up in the Cleansing Chapel. The Ringed City video begins with the Painting Woman speaking of how the Ashen One’s gift of flame has taken root and Uncle Gael is bringing pigment.
This suggests the storyline that began in the first DLC will be coming to a close. It may be wise to attempt to complete Ashes of Ariandel before moving on to The Ringed City.
Dark Souls III is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Ringed City add-on will launch on March 28, 2017.
