Level 5’s trilogy of Professor Layton DS games is about to end. Professor Layton and the Last Time Trip comes out in Japan tomorrow, but Level 5 isn’t shelving the franchise. Now that the games are done Level 5 is moving Professor Layton to the movies… again.
Unlike the live action movie released in last year, Professor Layton The First Movie is an animated film. The movie will have a brand new story and it is slated for release in Japan in January 2010. Famitsu speculates that the title “First Movie” sparks the possibility of a series of Professor Layton movies. Sure, why not? Give him an anime series too. The Professor Layton series is huge in Japan.
Meanwhile other regions are just getting into the Professor Layton series thanks to Nintendo publishing Professor Layton and the Curious Village in North America, Europe, and even Korea. Nintendo hasn’t said anything about publishing the other Professor Layton games, but if they don’t another publisher probably will.
