As a recovering Animal Crossing addict, I’ve become somewhat picky about the life simulation games I play these days. I need to play games that have some sort of purpose outside of gathering, farming, and taking part in seasonal events. Which is why I was a little hesitant to dive into Disney’s take on the genre. But hey, what did I have to lose outside of hours I could be spending on a backlog game?
Unlocking anything and everything in Disney Magical World 2 Enchanted Edition requires Stickers. Thankfully, you can collect these easily. Between helping out residents of Castleton with personal requests or taking on quests to battle some rather pesky ghosts, your Sticker Book fills up at a steady pace. You want new themes for your home and cafƩ? Earn Stickers. Want to travel to one of the five franchise themed worlds? Get more Stickers.
When you aren’t running around in search of items, you can spend some time managing your cafĆ©. Any decor items you unlocked to decorate your home with can be used here. Proper theming equals points to host parties with special guests. It’s all in combining the right elements. The furniture, staff outfits, and food planning all add up and give you a better chance at throwing the best parties with guests from that particular series. Parties are a great way to make mad coin to spend at Scrooge’s on all of those limited items. I like to throw them as often as I can afford to. Some of those limited pieces are pricy.
As you earn more Stickers, you’ll open up those five movie worlds I mentioned before. Winnie the Pooh, Lilo & Stitch, Snow White, Frozen, and Alice in Wonderland worlds offer more quests, characters, and crafting items. There are also unique activities in each world to take part in. For instance, you can garden with Rabbit in The 100 Acre Wood or mine for gems with the Seven Dwarves. You’ll find yourself visiting these areas over and over as you collect more Stickers and unlock more episodes from each board.
Battling the ghosts that are for some reason infesting Disney Magical World 2 is a mixed bag. The quests are a welcome break from the gathering and basic request fulfillment portions of the game. But they look like they belong in a Super Mario RPG. Why didn’t they take advantage of Disney’s very own Haunted Mansion ride? The ride literally features 999 ghosts. Ghosts with character. Ghosts with pizzaz. Just a giant missed opportunity to include that bit of pixie dust which Disney Park fans would appreciate.
If you’re feeling a little burnt out with Animal Crossing or waiting for the next big event, Disney Magical World 2 Enchanted Edition can fill that void. There are so many items to craft and collect for use in your house and cafe, tonnes of character outfits for your wardrobe, and parties to juggle when you aren’t running errands and quests. It’s a decent port of a five year old game. Just keep in mind very few characters are voiced over and there is a lot of text. Younger kids may need some assistance if you were planning on this as a holiday gift.
