While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a direct follow-up to Breath of the Wild, your save data from the previous game doesn’t carry over and guarantee you access to a fully-powered and equipped Link in the sequel. In the first moments, we’ll see Ganondorf strip him of his power and abilities. That means all of the items in our wardrobes and any weapons we had save for the damaged Master Sword are gone. The Master Mode save you might have had also won’t do anything special. However, because your horses were boarded safely in stables, having save data from the previous game does mean all of them will still be waiting for Link and you once you get back from Great Sky Island.
Does anything in your The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild save data carry over to Tears of the Kingdom?
Only one thing carries over. You’ll still have all of your horses from the previous game waiting for you in the stables across Hyrule. This also includes Epona, if you acquired the horse via various means in the previous game. Likewise, I found the special Giant Horse from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was still waiting for me at the stable once I reached one in Tears of the Kingdom.
You can see how both were waiting for Link’s return in the screenshots below.
