Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Announced at TGA 2023

The announcement trailer is over a minute long, starting with Goku and Vegeta fighting each other. The video notes that this is “a new Budokai Tenkaichi,” and it is the latest entry in the fighting game series since the 2007 Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Other characters who appear in the trailer include Frieza, Broly, Krillin, Cell, and Android 18. You can wishlist the game now on retailers like Steam.

Though the English title of the game does not have Budokai Tenkaichi anymore, it’s actually a reference to the series’s original name. In Japan, the games are called Dragon Ball Z: Sparking, which is a reference to the “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” opening song for the anime. Similar to how the Yakuza series dropped references to organized crime when it shifted the focus to Kasuga and turned it to Like a Dragon, it’s likely that this game might be a rebranding of the original fighting game series. In any case, more information on the game will come out in the future.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is in development and will come out on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam.
