Coming hot on the heels of last month’s iOS and Android release of Dragon Quest I is the release of Dragon Quest II. The game popped up on the New Zealand Apple App Store last night. Following the usual trend, it should hit the North American market sometime around 8PM PST. A European release should be expected as well.
Dragon Quest II is the second part in the original Erdrick trilogy of games, and abandons the one-on-one combat of the original.
Instead, II opts to star three young royal heroes together in their quest to defeat the wizard Hargon, making it the first game in the series to feature a party. There is also a larger array of spells and items at your disposal, and a bigger open world to explore.
This remake will continue to follow in the portrait (vertical position) style of the other releases, featuring easy controls that can be operated by one hand. It also sports a new localization following how Dragon Quest I had a new localization as well.
This timely release of the sequel—coming only a month after the first Dragon Quest’s release—matches what the producer of the mobile titles, Noriyoshi Fujimoto, has said about Square’s release schedule: that they hope to get all the subsequent mobile games after Dragon Quest I out within a month, maybe two, of each other.
