Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii shared a year-end message where he made a brief mention of Dragon Quest XII.
We still haven’t heard much about the new Dragon Quest entry, but back in June of 2019 it was mentioned that Square Enix was making preparations.
Below is the tweet and message from Yuji Horii:
あけましておめでとうございます。下にあげた以外にも、まだまだ言えないものもありますが、12は、まだちょっと先になりそうです。でも、その前に発売できるものもあるかも。今年も、よろしくお願いしますね😊 pic.twitter.com/dovPbbkydl

“Happy new year. There’s a lot more that I couldn’t say in the message below, but as for Dragon Quest XII it is still a ways away. However, there might be something we can announce before that. Please continue supporting us this year, too.”
Happy new year. Last year we started with the movie Dragon Quest Your Story, then released Dragon Quest XI‘s Switch version. We also launched Dragon Quest Walk for smartphones, announced both an anime and game for Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. As for the production of Dragon Quest XII, it’s been 33 years since Dragon Quest I and I’m very happy to be able to take on a new challenge like this today. I am truly grateful for all of the fans that continued supporting Dragon Quest and all the staff that kept it going. I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to keep going, but I do hope to keep doing my best for a little while longer. Let this year be a wonderful year for you all, and I hope to see your support this year as well.

Dragon Quest‘s latest entry, Dragon Quest XI, first released in Japan in July 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.
