Namco Bandai’s Dragon Ball arcade game is out in Japan today. Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale uses a different combat system than the console games where up to four players can join in one fight.
The controls are similar, though. In addition to a joystick, there are five buttons: ki blast, punch (strike), jump, (bottom row) target switch, and guard. Press all three top buttons (ki + punch + jump) along with a direction to do special moves. Goku, for example, shoots a Kamehameha when you hit all three buttons. Hold down on the joystick at the same time and Goku throws a Spirit Bomb.
Punch and guard makes your character grab or throw an opponent. In 2 on 2 fights, you can hold an enemy in place while another player charges up for an attack. All characters can also use a spirit explosion (ki + punch + jump + guard) to knock opponents back if they’re surrounded and can retaliate against a team attack with a multi-counter (target switch + guard).
Dragon Ball: Zenkai Battle Royale has ten playable characters: Goku, Krillin, Vegeta, Frieza, Piccolo, Android 16, Android 18, Cell, Trunks, and Nappa. Win a match and you might earn a costume.
Namco Bandai lets players pick a costume, accessory, title, emblem, and write a comment before a fight starts. You have to be fast since customization time is only 30 seconds! Character data can be saved on a Bana Passport.
