The Switch release of EDF 2017Ā will contain all missions from the older platform releases. It will also include the female Pale Wing soldier as a playable character. D3 Publisher will make sure that the port will support local and online multiplayer with up to four players.

This game is known in Japan as Earth Defense Force 3. The third mainline title was originally released for Xbox 360 in 2006. It was also the first EDF game available in North America when D3 Publisher brought it to the West as EDF 2017 in 2007. The publisher also released a PlayStation Vita version that added Pale Wing in Japan in 2012 and the West in 2013.

D3 Publisher initially had a Fall 2021 release window for the EDF 2017 port when it revealed Earth Defense Force 2 for Nintendo Switch. The company has released the prequel’s port in Japan on July 15, 2021. However, the Japanese My Nintendo Store page forĀ EDF2 notes that the port only supports the Japanese language.

Earth Defense Force 2017Ā for Nintendo Switch will be available in Japan on October 14, 2021.
