Facebook Files: What Casual Games Do You Play?

This week’s discussion is about casual games and which ones we play and like.

Whether or not many would like to admit it, casual games are here to stay and they’ve been an extremely important part of influencing game design for the better over the last few years. Developers are more dedicated now to streamlining controls than ever, even in their core games, and games like Peggle on the DS or iPhone are a great way to get your friends interested in your hobby.

A lot of us on Siliconera play casual games, too. Which ones have you checked and which do you enjoy?

Personally, I find myself playing a round or two of Yahoo Pool with a friend every now and then. Peggle also remains a favourite and Wii Sports is always fun to pull out occasionally, even if Sports Resort is the better game.

Do Solitaire and Tetris count as casual games? I still play those two from time to time. I’m racking my brain thinking of what else I play for casual games, but nothing else is springing to mind. Lately I haven’t really played anything unless I have at least an hour to sit down and absorb some story.

Oh, I’ve also started doing the crosswords in the paper every day. It’s sort of like a casual game, right?

Facebook Uno is what I’ve been rocking lately. It’s the perfect time-waster when work is boring me and the boss is in a meeting.

Hmmm…. I play Solitaire, Freecell, and Spider on my own from time to time. I had a friend who challenged me to online pool a few months ago, but apparently I made too many lucky shots and now she’s afraid to play me.

I’m not sure if those Sudoku DS games count, but those are easier to carry around then books, and maybe overall cheaper than buying newspapers everyday. I’m not too sure about Mario Kart DS either, but I play that with the kids at my community center a lot. That’s about all I can think of.

I’ve never really been able to get into a lot of the popular casual games like Peggle, I’d always get bored of it really quickly. But I can sink a good amount of time into time management games like Diner Dash and the iPod has plenty of them~

So, what casual games do you play? What platforms do you play them on? Which ones do you like and why? Fire away!
