The first ever American Anime awards were held at New York Comic Con this past weekend and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children won the award for best anime feature. It beat out Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa, Inuyasaha the Movie 4: Fire on Mystic Island, Pokemon Movie 8: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and Akira for the title. Square-Enix had this to say on reception of their award:
"Thanks to the dedication of our loyal fans, Final Fantasy VII has come to enjoy 10 years of undying popularity,” said Shinji Hashimoto, Producer, “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, a direct sequel in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, brings the series into the next century with today’s state-of-the-art CG, and we’re sure fans enjoyed seeing old friends brought to new life on the screen. As creators, we are very proud of the finished product, and as developers, it is truly an honor to receive an award of this magnitude. We hope for your continued support as the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII delves deeper into this exciting world. Thank you.”
Delving deeper into the world of Final Fantasy VII? Are there going to be more products beyond Crisis Core and the infinitely delayed mobile phone game Before Crisis? Hmm…
Other big winners at the American Anime awards were FLCL (won best comedy anime and short series) and Fullmetal Alchemist which was awarded: best cast, best DVD package design, best long series, best anime theme song and Vic Mignogna, Edward’s voice actor, took home the best actor award.
