FFXIV Devs Confirm New Endwalker Story Content Is on the Way

In a Famitsu magazine interview, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) scenario writer Natsuko Ishikawa revealed that the team plans to release a new story related to the main plot of the Endwalker expansion. Ishikawa also explained the meaning behind some key lines from the ending scenes of the expansion. Additionally, producer Naoki Yoshida offered a few hints as to what kinds of battles players may face next. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

During the interview, Ishikawa revealed that Emet-Selch’s last lines to the player were in fact a message to the rest of the FFXIV staff, to continue creating stories with the material they’ve set up. Ishikawa explained that she didn’t want the team to feel that the story was over. Lead story designer Banri Oda added that several continents already exist in the world that the players have not yet explored.

Furthermore, Ishikawa revealed that a new “complementary” story relating to the events of Endwalker is already planned for FFXIV. Specifically, it will be a detailed and smaller-scale story. It’s unclear when this new story will appear in future updates. Notably, Ishikawa also mentioned that, had Hermes not started the Final Days, the world may have become similar to the one shown at the end of The Dead Ends dungeon.

On the topic of battles, Yoshida addressed concerns about whom the player will fight next. Yoshida stated that there are still various possibilities, as past Final Fantasy titles have even led players to fight against the personification of the Void. However, Yoshida also clarified that he doesn’t think continuously inflating the scale of the story and making stronger bosses is a good idea.

Final Fantasy XIV is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The Little Ladies Day event is ongoing and will take place until March 31, 2022.
