When first announced, guildleves were a core part of Final Fantasy XIV. These images of Eorza’s saints were the ticket to timed quests such as defeating a certain number of monsters or retrieving loot. Guildleves were also capped to a limited number of quests tied to time in the real world.
Naoki Yoshida, Director, says that guildleves will no longer be central to Final Fantasy XIV. These quests are being reworked as content for solo adventurers who have limited time to play a MMORPG. The development team are also working on new quests with NPCs and instanced raids, which will be introduced in patch 1.18.
"We still have some ways to go, but Final Fantasy XIV will gradually shift from being a grind-centric game to one that offers enjoyment for all playing styles and circumstances with its ever-expanding variety of content," Yoshida wrote.
