Sunrise and Japanese broadcaster TBS announced Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury will air starting October 2022. Each episode will air weekly on TBS’ Sunday 5 p.m. time slot, and will appear across its network of 28 stations across Japan. There is still no confirmation on an English or Western release. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
Notably, the Witch From Mercury airing will mark the return of the Sunday time slot, which TBS ended back in 2016. Other Gundam series have also occupied the same time slot in the past. These have included Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. Additionally, it was previously home to countless other popular anime series, including My Hero Academia, Seven Deadly Sins, and Fullmetal Alchemist. The last anime series to air in that time slot was Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
TBS uploaded a tribute video that covers all of the time slot’s past series, which you can check out below.
Sunrise announced Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury back in September 2021, alongside the upcoming Cucuruz Doan’s Island movie adaptation. The anime series will reportedly cater to a worldwide teen demographic. Details on the series are still scarce. The official website also features various language options, possibly indicating a global release.
