Gundam Seed: Freedom Movie to Air in 2024

A new movie set in the Cosmic Era called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Freedom will air on January 26, 2024 in Japan. A trailer for the movie is available on the Gundam SEED official Twitter account. Sunrise first announced that it was working on a movie for the series back in 2021.

The trailer is about half a minute long, and it mostly focuses on Kira and Lacus. This will be a completely new story and continuation of the original show. There are also some quick scenes from the show, such as when Athrun gifted Tori to Kira. The text that appears on-screen can loosely translate to “Will you choose the destiny chosen for you, or the freedom to rebel?” This concept of freedom versus destiny was present throughout both SEED and SEED Destiny.

Again, this will not be a compilation movie and will continue the story of the Cosmic Era. Gundam SEED aired from 2002 and 2003, and its sequel SEED Destiny aired from 2004 to 2005. Both series follow the conflict between the Coordinators (genetically enhanced humans who reside in space) and Naturals (non-modified humans who live on Earth).

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Freedom will air in Japan on January 26, 2024. It’s unclear if it will appear in other territories.
