Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix Adds Touch Play Mode Via Update

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix might already feature two different play modes, with Rhythm Game mode and the gyro control-focused Mix Mode, but a third major control option is being added to the game via the update releasing tomorrow in Japan: Touch Play Mode. Essentially, it adds button controls to the Nintendo Switch touch screen in Tabletop Mode or Handheld Mode.

First revealed earlier in March 2020, Touch Play Mode features the buttons in the same order as they are presented in the Project DIVA Arcade game, letting players have an option to play with similar controls even without buying the extra arcade pad. As you can see via the screenshots above, the symbols on the buttons will reflect whichever four button symbols you are using at the time. (You can use the PlayStation symbols or arrows, rather than ABXY, if you prefer.)

You don’t actually have to touch on the buttons themselves, but rather the column they appear in, which will help considering the many directions the notes fly in from. Slide and Chain Slide icons are performed by swiping quickly or slowly in the shown direction depending on which one you’re doing. That said, Sega warns that once Touch Play Mode is active, Joy-Cons and other controllers will become inactive, limiting you to the touchscreen only. You won’t be able to use a combination of the two.

Here’s a look at Touch Play Mode in action:

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. It will come to other regions on May 15, 2020.
