Here’s How the New Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle Cover Art Was Made

The Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle features an original cover that brings the two series together. This meant a slipcover and Launch Edition Steelbook case that would blend the two leads together so Bayonetta and Sam Gideon share the spotlight. To help people better understand how this vision was realized, a new video from Sega looks at how Illustrator Dan Dussault put together the Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary key art with input from Weapons Van Art Director Scott Spatola and Production Manager Jason Rau.

In the very opening, Spatola says, “We wanted the two characters to look like they were meant to go together, and we wanted it to kind of look like a choreographed scene.” A goal was to show how the two could connect and play off of each other in their respective scenes and on the cover.

Making sure the details were accurate was another critical part, with PlatinumGames offering feedback on preliminary sketches. One anecdote noted that in an early sketch, PlatinumGames let Dussault know one charm actually belonged on Bayonetta’s left gun, rather than her right one. This sort of attention also led the trio to catch details they weren’t even aware of, like the embossed symbol that appears on the soles of Bayonetta’s shoes.

Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle will appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 18, 2020. Bayonetta is also available on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Vanquish is also available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
