Vtubers – a variety of streamer or Youtuber characterized by the streamer performing primarily behind an avatar – are a big new movement in online entertainment. Though it originated in Japan, Vtubers are now a global phenomenon. The performers encompass a wide range of interests, from independent streamers using their avatar as a personal brand to corporate-managed talents that blend in aspects of idol culture. The latter types tend to be more visible, and Hololive and Nijisanji are among the largest Vtuber agencies. Hololive alone manages over 50 performers, and in addition to Hololive English has recently added Hololive Indonesia to cater to southeast Asia’s largest demographic.

The first generation of Hololive English, also known as “HoloMyth”, includes the perfomers Mori Calliope, Watson Amelia, Ninomae Inanis, Takanashi Kiara, and Gawr Gura. Now Cover Corp is seeking to expand the stable, and bring in new talents to entertain English-speaking audiences.

According to the announcement, applications will be accepted until March 26, 2021. The basic requirements are rather loose: The applicant need only speak English (though Japanese ability is a plus). Cover is also taking in applicants of all genders, though Hololive’s roster is heavily female-presenting.

On the application form, more detailed Hololive English application guidelines are available:

  • Applicants need to be able to “deliver content continuously” for at least one year.
  • Applicants need to be able to perform at least thrice a week.
  • Applicants need a proven track record as a content creator.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Applicants don’t even need their own avatar. The company will provide one in the event of a successful audition.

H0lolive English applications are open until March 26, 2021, and those interested can visit this Google form to submit an application. More details, including performing schedules for the current Hololive English Vtubers, are posted regularly to the official Twitter account.
