How to Finish the Octopath Traveler 2 ‘Procuring Peculiar Tomes’ Side Story

As you get further into Octopath Traveler 2, you’ll happen upon side stories like “Procuring Peculiar Tomes” that are multi-part affairs. These often need to wait until members of your party are at level 35 or higher, due to the danger of reaching some places or requirements to perform certain path actions. So if you want to help the Montwise library with its books, it could take a while.

There are three tomes you need to get for the Unusual Tome Specialist in the Octopath Traveler 2 “Procuring Peculiar Tomes” questline. Here’s the full list of what they are and where you’ll find them. The easiest one to get is Dispatches from Beasting Island, and The Curious Legend of the Great Wall will be one of the more difficult to acquire due to it being in the Stormhail area.

  • The Curious Legend of the Great Wall: Southern Stormhail Snows southern entrance. Steal or buy it from the Archeologist. I got it for 1,900 leaves with Partitio.
  • Dispatches from Beasting Island: At Beasting Village, buy or steal it from the Foreign Traveler next to the save point. I stole it with Throne with no trouble.
  • From the Far Reaches of Hell: At the southmost point of Crackridge, there will be a troubled scholar blocking a door. If Throne is past level 30, she can ambush him and gain access to his home. The book is in a chest inside.

You must have all three books to complete “Procuring Peculiar Tomes” in Octopath Traveler 2. When you bring them back at once, the Unusual Tome Specialist on the left side of the Montwise library will give you 6,500 leaves, a Librarian’s Amulet, and a Refreshing Jam. She’ll also hint that another quest could eventually come tied to From the Far Reaches of Hell.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available for the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. A demo is available.
