How to Holster Your Weapon in Starfield

There are so many weapons for you to use in Starfield, ranging from melee knives to laser cutters to long-range rifles and more. You can pull out your weapon anytime in the game, but you probably don’t want to do that in certain situations. As such, you’ll want to know how to holster your weapon in Starfield when necessary.

How to Put Away Your Weapon in Starfield

It is quite easy to put away your weapon in Starfield, but the only problem is the game doesn’t make it clear from the start. Instead, you have to fumble around with the controls and potentially do something you don’t want to in order to find out.

Thankfully, you can quickly holster your weapon in Starfield by holding down the X button on Xbox or the R key on PC. Make sure to hold down this button for a few seconds, though, or else you’ll only reload your weapon.

If successful, you’ll instantly put your weapon away and be able to run around freely in cities and other populated areas without worry of accidentally doing something you’d regret. This is also crucial during certain moments in the game, such as if you commit a crime.

If you commit a lesser crime and have your weapon out, there is a high chance the guards might open fire on you. But holstering your weapon in these situations will show you give up, and they can take you to jail or make you pay a fine at this point.

You also don’t want to have your weapon out when talking to certain NPCs, as that can also make them mad or on edge, which will make your negotiations and current objectives more difficult than they need to be.

Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
