How to Recruit Mariette in Eiyuden Chronicle and Get a Library

There are times when you will need to fight random enemies and get a item to recruit a character in Eiyuden Chronicle, and that’s how you unlock Mariette and the library. You need to help her recover her charm to win her over.

How do I recruit Mariette in Eiyuden Chronicle?

When you’re on your way to Hishahn, you can stop at Twinhorne East on the way after leaving The Greatwood-South. Across from the inn, along the water, you can happen upon Mariette. When you speak with her, she’ll explain she dropped her lucky charm, a gift from a friend, after an encounter with a Rabbit Archwitch enemy in The Greatwood.

So here’s where you can find Mariette initially on the map:

The charm is a part of a gimmick during a random encounter fight in the game. You can’t go to a specific spot or place in an area to trigger it. When I headed into The Greatwood-South, the fight spawned for me after I’d fought about three battles.

About here is where I was:

And here’s how the fight looks. You need to make sure you send one of your characters to the Treasure Chest, instead of attacking or using another action, to get the charm.

Head back to Mariette while holding that new key item, talk to her, and you’ll recruit her in Eiyuden Chronicle

Is Mariette good in Eiyuden Chronicle

I mean, she exists to get a library in your castle in Eiyuden Chronicle. So if you want a chance to go through books and lore, then yes she is good. You probably collected some book pages along the way by the time you get her, may as well catalog them!

You can’t build a library right away, however. Your town must be at level 2 for the Build Library node to appear on the Drafting Studio map. You need 26 allies, 100 pieces of food, and 6,400 in Headquarters Funds to reach that point in development. Then, you need 800 Headquarters Funds, 4 pieces of Mystic Lumber, and Mariette to actually build a library.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
