Interview: Reche and Suis Talk About Atelier Ryza 3’s Music

With Atelier Ryza 3, Gust tapped Reche, who formerly appeared as Chelly with EGOIST, to perform the opening theme song “That Summer Hideout” and Suis to sing the ending music “Travelers.” Siliconera got a chance hear both singers’ thoughts on the experience and game.

Interview: Reche and Suis Talk About Atelier Ryza 3's Music

Jenni Lada: How did you feel when you found out your song and music would be featured in Atelier Ryza 3?

Reche: As I was still in the early stages of my solo career, wondering if I was well-known even among my fans, I was surprised and happy to be offered this opportunity. It was one of my dreams to sing the theme song for a game.

Suis: For me, summer adventures are a strongly ingrained theme, so I was thrilled at the opportunity to resonate in Ryza’s world!

How much backstory and information were you given ahead of time?

Reche: The synopsis of the story, or any other core part of the story, was not shared with me. So I recorded the song while imagining the story from the lyrics I was given.

Suis: I knew it was a summer story, a story about boys and girls growing up, and it had some alchemy. I didn’t get to the play the game before recording, so after I finished recording I’ve been relaxing and enjoying the world of Ryza.

What kinds of themes and emotions did you try to convey with your music for Atelier Ryza 3?

Reche: The song is sung as emotionally as possible, while combining the excitement and sparkle of it starting with the loneliness and sadness of it ending. As a player, I am very much looking forward to the game’s release.

Suis: Since it is the final summer…, I sang the song with the feeling of something that warmly watches over everyone, even though it has no form, like the winds of home that await Ryza and her friends, or like the memories themselves that accompany them.

I believe that Ryza and her friends have something beyond sorrow that shines towards them so that they can face forward at the end of their adventure.

Is there anything you’d like people to know about your songs and the game going into the finale?

Reche: Although it is sad that the story comes to its finale in Atelier Ryza 3, I would be happy to know how this theme song, which you will probably hear first in the game, resonates with you when you look back on the game.

Suis: This is a long-awaited new release! I am still a novice adventurer, but I will do my best to catch up with you all as soon as possible! At the same time, I will be waiting for you with songs at the end of the final summer. I wish you all a wonderful adventure.

Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key will come to the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC on March 23, 2023 in Japan and March 24, 2023 worldwide. In case you missed it, Siliconera also spoke with Gust’s Junzo Hosoi about the title.
