Kara no Shoujo Is Designed To Be A “Thinking” Game, Not A “Reading” Game

This week, MangaGamer will publish an English language version of Innocent Grey’s  popular Kara no Shoujo, a mystery visual novel set in the year 1956, following Japan’s defeat in World War II.

Kara no Shoujo is a bit more of an adventure game than strictly a visual novel, though. The game features an investigation aspect that has you tracking down a serial killer who appears to target women, specifically. An in-game memo pad feature helps you keep track of your investigation as you uncover clues. This feature, Innocent Grey tell us, will make a return in their future games as well.

“We’re aiming for games where you don’t just choose choices, but rather games where you have to think,” Innocent Grey told Siliconera in a recent interview.

“This is something that will be essential to Innocent Grey games in the future as well,” Innocent Grey elaborated with regard to the memo pad feature. “While the case [the game] will end if the player ‘reads’ mindlessly, with this the player can ‘think’ and end the case for themselves. We want to create a game that gives you that feeling of satisfaction (catharsis) when you solve a case.”

A demo version of Kara no Shoujo is currently available for download on MangaGamer’s website. The full game will be released for digital download on June 29th.
